tramadol/percocet addiction

I have been taking tramadol and percocet for about 5 years now, 240 tramadol a month and 90 percocet a month.originally given for a back condition, but mostly used to feel good.Taking these pills is great,I can work harder, get along better with people and generally feel much better when Im on them.I typically go thru the all the tramadols in about 7-10 days and the percocets last about 5-7 days. The first day I get my script filled 7-10 tramadols a day are great, but by the 4-7 day,I have to take quite a few. After I use up my months supply,I suffer until I can get them filled again!I am getting tired of living like this. The tramadol did knock me out a few times(seizures) and resulted in an ER visit, but that hasnt happened in over a year,so I guess my body is getting more used to them.Im going to try to just use the recommended amount next month,so I dont have to go thru withdrawl once every month. Is it better to try this or just quit them all together?  Thanks for your time.

Mike - I would try to taper.  w/d blows.  I'm ending day 4 (10-12 tramadol/day) of cold turkey.  I feel pretty good but I'd definitely recommend tapering because you've been on them for a long time.  Seizures are probably an indication that the pills are not a good thing.  Take care and good luck!

Any drug that is causing that much trouble needs to be done away with in your life. Take a long look at your reasons to taper or c/t. Do you really have the strength to taper? these are questions you and only you can answer. I do know this, for me I was like Mike. As long as the bottles were there, I took the drugs. I even had a Dr helping me to taper, but I didn't have the will power to lower my doses. So you need to decide. Can someone else monitor your taper and distribute your doses to you/
Wish you well in your quest. You can do this.

wow i found both of these  posts disturbing PLZ PLZ get yourselves help you are having seizures and continue to use the medication . If you are in deep enough the you are still taking a drug that has given you seizures i don't see that you can deal with this on your own you both need inpatient treatment or intensive out paniet treatment . good luck

Let me get this straight....you ended up in the ER from the Tramadol, but you are going to keep taking them? So now, you are in control????

Good Luck.

hi there! i think I have you beat on your monthly total of 240 tram, I've been taking 180 a week for over a year now! BUT, I don't take anything else.

i am just starting my "taper", I also started having seizures, at first they were just "falls", but progressed to full-on seizures. Last seizure was in June, and of course I'm just now bringing myself (and wanting) to quit.

The choice between tapering and going c/t (cold turkey) is dependent on how you'll be able to do it best. I chose tapering because I don't know if i'm strong enough for c/t, and my family is helping me get through. But I've also heard others on the boards that have had great success with c/t! That decision is definately yours to make, but I think everyone here will agree with me, once you do decide, we're all here to support you, and help any way we can.

Good Luck~ Look forward to getting to know you!
