How many junkies and dope addicts that get arrested and go to jail get any kind of help for their W.D pain? Its about ZERO
If your a long time Heroin user seizures are very possible and is dangerous..........most other opiate addictons yes they will be rough and if you pounded pills for yrs will be rough.......
If you were a serious Dilaudid or Fentynal injection user like I was then inhouse detox would be the only way............the W/Ds would be very very rough............
Coming off Vicodin is not an easy thing for a person who has been taking it for an extended period of time. Fortunately there are some good ways to get help to stop taking them. The things that you notice about her are all pretty much standard issues with long term use/abuse. I was an absolute jerk to be around when I was actively using/abusing painkillers. It really altered my personality in a bad way.
If your friend wants to be free of the Vicodin, she needs medical assistance. Coming cold turkey off painkillers that have been taken in heavy doses for a long time can be physically dangerous due to the efffects of the withdrawal on your body. I made the mistake of doing this and I DO NOT recommend it !!!! It's alot of pain I could have avoided, but wasn't informed enough to realize there were other ways.
A doctor will probably prescribe a regimen of tapering off with smaller and smaller doses combined with a drug like Suboxone to curb the physical side effects and make it easier to bear. It's still ALOT of suffering to endure and getting free of it is not easy to do. But it is possible. I have been completely off a steady habit of Tylenol-4 and Vicodin @ 10-15 pills/day for 9 weeks today and the mental and psychological improvements are astounding. It's worth the sleepless nights, "junk sickness", and all the rest of the stuff just to have my life back.
There is hope and it can be done. There are alot of good people here that have kicked habits that make mine look like milk-duds.
May I ask what kind of back problems don't get any better after eight years?
Welcome,
If she has medical insurance an inpatient detox would be the best way to go.........
