vitamin/supplement recipe for w/d's

My poor husband is going through a tramadol withdrawal. 1st addicted to norco's, kicked them with tramadols, now coming off the trammies. He was taking about 10-12/day. Defintely an addict at anything he does. He tried to do the slow taper & it hasnt worked. So he has decided to go cold turkey.
He's made it through day 4 of no sleep & feeling like ****. Hasnt slept but he is making it. Is there a list of supplements he can be taking to feel better & help with depression? He is taking some melatonin (I just read its not enough whats he is taking). Is there a recipe? I hate to do the Thomas & start him on a benzo. He will get addicted to the benzos for sleep. He's stubborn, wont go to a 12 step program but is willing to quit.

It should be noted that for tramadol, tapering is better due to seizures.
Look for avisG profile. She has a good taper plan.

Off to Vitamin Cottage to spend a small fortune. But thats OK if I get my wonderful husband back, even just a little. He's a mess & I feel bad for him.
Anyway, thanks for the suggestions & I will check in again.

You can do a google search for the Thomas Recipe if you need it.  There is some herbs that you can give him.  Valarian Root, Kava Kava and B12 have really helped me. Also drinking Camamille tea helps around bed time along with the meletonin

The L-tyrosine is for energy - it shouldn't be used at first because it can increase the restlessness.

Immodium is derived from opiates and hits some of the same receptors - it can be slightly calming.

Benedryl helps some people, too.

IBKleen has the thomas recipe. It does help a little, different for everybody i guess. The L-tyrosine and well all of it for that matter does seem to be helping. If he can make it a couple more days there is a whole new world for him. He's not alone there are alot of us on here going through w/d's right now. The hot bath does help,on day 3 i started feeling pretty crappy and took a looonnnggg hot hot shower and felt alot better. Good luck and he is lucky to have you. I hope he gets clean and doesnt fall back. I did  and this time I don't have my wife to help. She has left me to do this on my own, I understand now where she is coming from and know this is it or she will be gone for good. I would hate to see that happen to anyone. He's got to stay positive, the mind has alot to do with the w/d and doesnt last forever. Hes more than halfway there and is gonna start feeling better anytime now.----John

Thanks CinCee for your suggestions. We have tried this before & he tried to take some valium at night. I did hold them, he found them, took too many & wrecked his truck. He really does have a chronic pain problem but at the same time has an addictive personality. He's willing & wanting to stop cold turkey so I'm just going to support him how ever I can. I'm doing research & the 5-HTP is on the list. Also Valerian, L-tyrosine & a multi vit. I've also been doing some research on Gaba. What a wonderful group & thanks for all your help!!

Some things you can try: 5-HTTP, melatonin, valerian, magnesium, bananas, immodium (helps with runs and restlessness).

Personally, I could not do it without some kind of benzo/muscle relaxant.  What if you held them for him?  Not all painkiller addicts cross-addict to a different drug.  I don't.
