Day 5 Finally feeling normal!!! Anyone no about Naltraxon?

Hey I am on day 5....I woke up at 8:30 made my kids pancakes...cleaned the house (was a mess since I hadn't felt great for the last few days) and had lunch with my husband and kids. (MY husband still does not know about this at all) I just still have the runs....but that is totally tolerable...I would rather get it all out my system then take Imodium...I feel it is part of the detox. I stopped today taking colodine and the other meds my Dr, gave me...they were making me very foggy and lagging (also know it was my body being exhusted from kicking these pills) So I have stopped...just takinig celebrex and motrin for my pain....and hope my stomach gets some relief. The Dr, suggests I go on Naltrxone...but also said she hasn't seen someone so determined to quit either so it is my choice. (A little history...I had 13,5 year clean and sober...was a herion addict!) I have over those years taken pain meds for child delivery & 3-4 surgeries and it was never an issue....when the pain stopped or the pills were done so was I! But for some reason after seprating my shoulder in a mountian bike crash they had me morphine, then dilotid, then perks and then down to Vicdone and for some reason that monster woke up and I was on a 6+ month run on Vicodine...and since I am now so clean cut, run a successful business, have 2 great kids and a husband Dr. kept giving me prescriptions....no problem....so my 2-3 a day got to 8-10 a day! So now it is 5 days off...I am done with the maddness of having anything controling me....even found 3 more pills in my purse last night and flushed them away. I am done.....so the whole naltraxone thing I am unsure of...I guess it is like antibuse for alcholics...insurance. But what are the negative effects from it? Thank you for all of you who helped me not only during my detox but the months or so before I was on here trying to get hope and courage to stop!!!!!

Just wanted to say congrats on getting your life back!!!  Isnt the difference amazing?  I am on day 16 and feel like I am a completely different person......a better one at that!  Keep posting and reading post and you will be out of the woods in no time!!

Glad one of us does :) I still get confused by it. Bupe is one weird drug..under 4mg it's a full agonist like morphine, then over 4mg it's a partial agonist, and when you get into higher dosages (like over 50mg..HUGE doses) it becomes a full agonist again. Very interesting drug.

OK, I'll try to explain this if I can. We're talking about 3 drugs. Their generic names are naltrexone, naloxone, and buprenorphine (hence called bupe cause I don't wanna spell it out all the time). Now, naltrexone and naloxone are basically the same acting drug. They both can be either used to "reverse" an opiate overdose, or stop an addict from getting an benefit from taking an opiate. Naloxone is used in ER situations to reverse opiate overdoses mainly because it's half life is much lower. OK, Subutex is simply Bupe, nothing more. Suboxone is bupe plus naloxone. The naloxone is not readily absorbed in the gut or sublingually. It's ONLY placed there to put someone in some uncomfortable withdrawals if they were to smash up a Suboxone tablet and inject it. Withdrawals would come almost instantly and last an hour or two. It stops people from abusing Suboxone. Now, since the naloxone is in the Suboxone, people just assume that the naloxone is what keeps addicts from getting high on Sub. Actually, it's the bupe that does that..in both Suboxone and Subutex. At dosages over 4mg, the Sub will "knock" all the other opiates off the receptor sites and place you into withdrawals. If you're over that 4mg mark, all your receptor sites are full..so another opiate has nowhere to attach. Therefore..no effect, no high. Under dosages of 4mg, Suboxone and Subutex work just like any other opiate. Hopefully I said this all right and didn't confuse the heck out of everyone.

Thank you so much for your support R2R.....you have been with me through all of this and I appreciate it....even when I was still using and just posting with all my fears.....so glad I just did it....and although it wasn't easy....it was just as having the flu....and I have survivied worse and still gone to work every dy and cared for my kids....I was still so scared.....and now feel so much better and happy I made the decision to stop!

I am a little confused about the naltrexone...I thought it was mixed with sub, only so that it could not be injected...I didn't know it worked by itself like this...Also Ga Guy i agree, I would be scared that in a emergency , i guess i mean something serious happening, and the meds wouldnt' work for pain...

Does anyone here have any experience with it??

I hear you ...that i smy fear too...I am a huge athlete and blew my ACL ski racing 2 years ago....separated my shoulder from my 7th triathon this summer in the mountian bike portion....I have had many other non surgical injuries because even at 38 (yikes) I am still playing inddor soccer 2 times a week and snowboarding every week too....I can see something happening and ending up in a hospital and getting serioulys f-up by it! I know I should slow down....but I cn't...it is in my blood! They were talking about naltrexone...I beleive....they said it will stop cravings....but in all hoesty I feel as though I am done!

I had thought about taking naltrexone before, but I'll be honest...it scared me to death that I might be in an accident and I may need pain meds...and they wouldn't work because of the naltrexone. I also want to point out that naloxone is usually used for ER overdose reversal because it's half life is about one quarter of that of naltrexone. People really get the actions of naltrexone, naloxone, and bupe mixed up quite a bit.

congrats on getting through day five youre thru the worst of the physical part, and you seem very positive so thats extremely good, you should be extremely proud of yourself its the ahrdest thing to ovrcome period. now naltrexone is used as a med for several reasons, one is when ppl overdose on H or pain killer its an antagonist so it blocks all opaites in the body and flushes them out instantly and puts the user into instant wd, its also sued aseitehr atablet taken daily or as a once a month shot that last the whole month for alcoholics, it is a unique drug because for both opiates addicts and alcoholics if you are given naltrexone it will block any high from happening on any amount of opiate and it will make you sick if even try to drinka   tiny bit,aand a it alst a long time..it  is a very good treatment drug for ppl who are far along in their program and are ready to not be on treatment meds like clonidine or are done with the physical wds...it sounds like you are ready, but make sure you know deep down that you feel it and you are truly ready and with taking that you will have an opaite bloacker in your system so even if the wrost ahppens and you relapse you wont feel a thing it will reject it...  after the physical wd's the hard aprt is the mental aspect which im sure youve dealt with beffore...taht can take more than 6 months to fully go away and it can come and go and be super severe to almost unnoticable...its tricky but your brain needs months to heal from the damage the opaites have casued to your pleasure centers...but going to meetings, NA, gettinga sponsor, therapy, and one on one counseling will help tremendously with that aspect of the wd's.soo you sound like your just about dont with the hardest part just stickw tih it its soo worth it feels amzing to truly bea live and live again..and enjoy life...
