End of Day 1 detox from Codeine/Cocodamol (Tyrenol3) Help/Advice please

Hi,

I've had great support so far in this group in preparing me to come off Codeine, I think.they're known as Tyrenol 3 in the US, please correct me if I'm wrong. I've been taking 8x30mg per day, sometimes more, and managed to taper to half of that.  My last tablets were taken last night, so 20 hours ago and the w/d symptoms are kicking in.

I've got everything recommended at hand to get me through this, but the one thing I suffer from is the "buzzy head".  I can't think of another way to describe it.  Does anyone else have experience of this? If so how did you alleviate it? Thanks for any help you give guys, it's much appreciated.

P.S.  Did you suggest to your hubby that he visit the Living With An Addict forum?  I hope he's thinking about it.  This is one of those crossroads in life that can make a marriage stronger...and if he's willing to learn more about your disease and how you are going to manage it that will make your marriage super strong.  It will also help him in learning how to cope with it on his end...very, very important because, as we say here, this isn't an I disease when it comes to aftercare, it is a we disease.

Hi my friend across the Pond!

I was just getting ready to head for bed (3 am here) and thought I would see if you were around.  I'm glad you got a lot of sleep...the dreams and sweats are not unusual though.  I'm guessing your legs either tightened up OR did a lot of shaking.

So glad you are keeping busy today however I also hope you can take a day or two off when the worst of the symptoms hit.  If you can't, well, I get the feeling you are a very strong woman.  Tell prospective clients that you think you are coming down with the flu.

It is also hard to stay feeling positive when one doesn't feel good.  My doctor tells me he can always tell when I feel lousy....I tend to spend extra time on myself...do up my hair, wear a little makeup (I'm not a makeup gal), dab some perfume on....etc.  That's my way of trying to make myself at least not look as bad as I feel lol.

Make sure when you have to come back and either read some posts or chat.  Doing that helps keep the positive in.  I'm a great believe in positive attracts positive and negative attracts negative.  You have a ton of people in here who care how you feel during your WD....think of us all as your cheerleading team.  We will spend a lot of time letting you know when you are doing very well because we want you to feel positive.

Keep that confidence too...I've been told it is very attractive in a woman (by my hubby of course lol)

You can do this, Owl.  We had a lot of chats over the last week and I KNOW you can do this!!!

Try and have as good of a day as you can.  As you were told earlier in a post...if you make it through the day without any opiates that is a good reason to celebrate...and if you manage to do that AND work well that almost will get you admitted into Sainthood ;-)

Hi there,

I managed to get a lot of sleep strangely, although I had some very weird dreams and night sweats, but I can really feel it in my legs this morning.  I have to get the house ready for a viewing today as we're selling, so that should keep me very busy.  Not feeling as positive as I was yesterday, but I'm still confident I'll do this.

Hi hun

I hope that you are managing to get some sleep tonight.  If not try a hot bath with the epsom salts, take whatever you got for the restless legs and sleep and try heating pads on the calves of your legs.  I think that is the part I hated the most...the leg shaking and the lack of sleep :-(

Praying for you!

Thank you Lulu, I'll check that out as I find meditation helps me anyway although I'm very new to it.  I usually have a fruit/Greek yoghurt smoothed that I make myself in the mornings, but I'll have to dig my juicer out.  I'm resigned to the fact this next few weeks are going to be tough, so I'm determined to be kind to myself, I'm usually very critical.

Just one more question before I try and get some sleep (hopefully), I think my eyes keep playing tricks on me, I keep seeing things move from the corner of my eye...is this to be expected?

Thanks again everyone for your kindness.

Hey there-

If you have access to a sauna that really helps!  Infrared is better than steam but steam will work too.
Also, Omega 3 fish oil may be easier for you to find than the protein shake.  The fillers in the shakes really hurt my gut so I did my own smoothies with blueberries, raspberries, almond milk, and flaxseed oil.
Also as much real juice as possible.
I have a juicer which is my best friend and I really like
carrot, apple, ginger, celery.  It's nutritious, calming, and good for the tummy.
Drink ten times more water than you think you need to and get as much fresh air as possible.
Also, hot baths with epsom salts are your best friend.
Most of all. you just have to be okay with not being okay for awhile.  If you treat yourself with love and compassion and surrender to the process it makes things much easier.
Also, I posted a link awhile back to a Yoga Nidra meditation that is aimed at people suffering chronic pain or addiction issues.  If you go to Addiction Social and scroll through for my post you will find it.
We're all here rooting for you....

Thanks guys.  I've had so much help from different people on here, it's amazing.  I've got Magnesium tablets, tyrosine, multivitamins, electrolyte tablets, B6, imodium, epsom Salts, chocolate lol.  I'm so determined to do this, I have plans and I can't do what I want with this hanging around my neck.  Struggling to find the amino acid shakes here in the UK, unless it's just normal protein shakes? In which case would Lysine supplement work?  Planning on going for a good long walk/run tomorrow, will that sweat it out of my system any quicker does anyone know? I'm going to be pestering you guys a lot over the next few days, so I apologise now.  I do have support at home, I confessed to my husband a couple of months back that I had a problem, which is when I started planning for this and tapering as much as I could.  I don't really have the support of my Dr though, who's attitude has been awful, and not helpful in the least.  Anyway I will look to the positives, and that meditation CD sounds good, thanks again, I'll keep you posted.

Hey...I just wanted to stop in and let you know you are so not alone.  The majority of us on here have been (and some are) right where you are now.  I think you can pull this off sucessfully if you make a plan and stick to it.  Codeine is a catchy little booger isn't it (that's not what I would really call it but I figured they would **** it out anyway!)
There are a few things that I was told to get when I first got started....a good brand of multivitamin, magnesium, vit C (like those Emergen C packets), Immodium (which helped my stomach immensely), gatorade (something so you won't dehydrate and I don't think JUST water will cut it, but drink water too), L-Tyrosine (available at GNC), Bee Pollen Granuales (also GNC....taste like crap, but worked), specifically for "buzzy head" (lol) I used Gaba 750 (from GNC as well) as it helped your neurotransmitters start to repair.  I more wanted to put my head through the wall, but this Gaba stuff did help.  The other thing I did for the head thing was I bought a Mind Food CD, which is like meditation sounds.  No words, just like "rushing" sounds, which when needed, this was a lifesaver!!!!!  The buzzy head is unfortunatly just something we all have to go through, but it will get better.  Unfortunately, the thing you need the most (which we can't buy) is time and patience.  Are you doing this at home alone or do you have family around to help you?
I totally think you can do this...there are so many people on here that can tell you what helped them, and you can try different things to see what works for you?  Definately check into that Mind Food CD.... I bought it online for like $10/$12???  Wasn't bad....
BTW....Keep posting when you start feeling bad....it helps!

Yes, amino acid shakes, electrolytes, a good vitamin, and keep drinking all the water you can. Fortunately, codeine is one of the fastest to leave the body and recover from. If you are healthy otherwise, opiate detox can't kill you, though it may feel like it. The fear and anticipation can make it worse, so just try to surrender to the process and your body will heal itself. Hang in there and let the time pass. Try to take walks, sit in the sun, watch a movie, it will pass. I had to do laps in my living room at first. Epsom salt baths help with the aches and the magnesium helps detox through the skin. Keep us posted, let us know how you feel when you get back from the store. You are doing the most important thing you possibly can right now. If you don't use today, and do nothing else, then today is a total success. Don't forget that, you can take care of everything else later, just don't put opiates in your body. You can do this.

Welcome back Owl!  I've heard about that amino acid protocol Jinx is talking about.  It is supposed to be pretty good.  I'm so sorry I didn't think about it...wasn't one of the things I used.  You'll get lots of great advice here though.  PM me if you need anything, want to vent, etc.
