Called My doctor, wasn't happy with him

I am finally at day seven. Had to count the days backward, because as horrible as it has been, I am suprised it was a week already. I am finally feeling better. I did call my doc yesterday, and told him about my decision to detox. He was suprised. He is the one who prescribes the Percocet (180 a month) and Norco (90 a month). My insurance company is nice enough to charge me ten dollars for them. He said, "why didnt you discuss this with me", and then he said, "well, OK, but what are you going to do for pain? You still are going to have chronic pain!" I felt pretty angry at first. How could he be so non-chalant about it. I told him that it has gotten out of control, 10-15 pills a day for the past two to three years. He told me that he could have give me something to help, and also Clonidine, but then he told me "you are probably over the worst of it." I guess I felt hurt. I have been asking him over the last year if he thought it was a problem, he kept saying, "no, you don't have a problem. You aren't selling it, buying it on the street, its prescribed." I don't think he understands. I feel angry. He is also the doctor of my ex husband and my best friends boyfriend, and both of them are on numerous narctoics he prescribed. His wife is also on tons of narcotics. He is my friend as well as physician which I think is one of the reasons that angered me most. I have an appt monday to talk about it more. The sad thing is, I am a RN, and everyone knows the docs that freely prescribe. Every overdose (pill wise) that comes into our ICU is usually followed by one of the three "easy RX docs".  Its sad.
What does everyone else think?

I'm glad you took my post as intended..I'm just trying to help. I will say this..from what you posted that your doctor said (also taking into fact that I can't hear the inflection in his voice)..it seemed as though he was worried about your pain and expressing how if you had told him, he could have prescribed some comfort meds. I think, if he were truly trying to be an ***, then he wouldn't have mentioned the Clonidine. Just my point of view of course.

You are 100% right. I know I was the one who grasped the RX and made sure I had a refill everytime I left the office. Make no mistake, I am being completely accountable for the fact that I did everything your post said. I just really wanted my doctor to be encouraging, not to tell me I won't be able to do it. Thats how I felt. We are going to talk on Monday, so hopefully it was my hypersensitive state that took anger at him. I still feel angry and hurt.

I'll be blunt. I was in the exact same situation as you. But I was the one who asked for the scripts. I took the prescriptions. I filled them. I took them home, counted them, and proceeded to take them. I can hold a resentment against my doctor until my death but it will not help my recovery. In the end, I will have to make amends to my doctor for the lies I told him when I inflated my pain level to keep the pills coming. And in the end, I am the addict...not him. As my sponsor told me "You're an addict, get over it". I can't get over anything until I let go of the past.

I think hes an idiot, or hes doing you a favor on purpose. it does keep the business rolling along,though........  to prescribe you 180 percs(oxies in reality) and 90 norcos each month is insane.  heck most docs, wont even prescribe oxies at all.

crying out loud, how many TV shows has there been on the subject?

your an RN, do you know of other docs that are doing that, besides those three insane docs?
