will try to kick ms contin this weeked

Hi, I just found this forum a little while ago.  So glad I did.  I've been taking one 30 mg ms contin a day for about two years now.  I just took my last half pill about 30 minutes ago.  I copied down the 'thomas recipe' but am hoping I can avoid taking benzos since one ( minor) reason I'm doing this is because I have a drug test coming up in a couple of weeks.  Also, the only benzo I have access to is xanax.  I guess my question is... is 30 mgs of morphine sulphate a relatively light habit?  Should I expect my WD's to be on the lower end of the spectrum of harshness?  I've been kind of assuming that but also trying to expect the worse.  I think the longest I've gone w/out a pill in the past couple of years has been about 30 hours, my legs were kicking bad at that point.  Thanks so much in advance to anyone who replies.

20 hours since my last half pill of morphine.  expect the fun to start any hour now.  I'm gonna run to the store now and then I'll be hunkered down here on this board.  There's a crazy thunderstorm in seattle right now and it's nice to know I won't be walking around and taking buses to go get a suply of pills.

Hey man.. First off welcome to this forum..  You will meet alot of cool people that have been there and done that to help you relate and beat, or manage this addiction.  So as far as MS-Contin, yes I am very familiar with these little pills.  MS-contin is a time relased morphine sulfate.  By splitting the pill into halves that makes the time release ineffective.. This means that the 15mg you take each dose hits you immedietly.. You were right about taking a very low dose. It is very rare to have someone take that low of a dose and then never move up.. Mostly due to our bodies immunities for the drug.  After time it seems that we need more and more to make it feel the same way as what the initial lower dose would make us feel.  So for not moving up on your dosage or abusing this drug A VERY BIG KUDOS FOR THAT!

Now as far as quitting.  Since you have been taking this drug for a long period of time every single day"even at a low dose" your body has became dependant on this drug.. When you try to quit your brain is going to be confused because it is so used to having this drug as a normal part of life for you.. So yes you are going to go through withdrawl(based on the feelings you had after the 30hours you went without) Those are one part of classic withdrawl symtoms. I have a post that I started about the effects of quitting your Drug of choice Cold turkey, which just means without tapering and just stop!  I will bump that post to the top of this page after I am done posting this message. Alot of the drugs withdrawls are very similar with the exception of a few. Usually morphine can be a hrader one to quit, but due to the lowe dose of what you are taking it will be about average in my opinion.. So just read all of the posts about the "physical" and "mental" withdrawls, and then that should help you with what to expect!

Remember that although at times you may feel like you are going to die due to the withdrawl feelings IT IS VERY RARE that peopel die from opiate cold turkey withdrawl.. So just be postive and realalize you ARE NOT ALONE, AND PEOPLE ARE HERE TO HELP YOU BEAT THIS ADDICTION!

I AM HERE TO HELP!

Bumping up is not a bad etiquette.  I really have no experience with MS Contin and I don't have any suggestions.  Just expect to have some withdrawals and bear with them.

I'm just making another comment to bump this up in case people aren't seeing it.  I'm just wondering if anyone out there knows much about going off of MS Contin and how bad the withdrawls get.  Thanks, (hope bumping isn't bad etiquette here, if so sorry)

Never detoxed before except for once I went about 30 hours or so without while waiting for my mom (yeah, my mom gives me this s***) to get her script filled.

I Read your journal David, how are you doing now?  It's been a little over a week for you right?

I'm so glad I never got into oxys much.  I have a friend who got hooked on them, and he's awaiting trial now for robbing a string of pharmacies.

hi ross, I was on up to24-mgs at one stage, then on 80mg for the lasy 2 months, then last Thusday went cold turkey,  ( was taking OXYCONTIN the devil pill ). You are on a very low dose and have stayed that way, I am not sure of what you can exoect as we are all different, but ot seems most of the W/S are familier.

Please read my journal, 'Diary Of Withdrawal, I really hope you are never as bad as I was and others.

Wishing you all the best in your new CLEAN WONDERFUL life, we are all here for you, no judges only helpful souls.
David ( oxykicker ).

I am not really sure but i do think it is because xanax is more addicting and has a short term lasting effect that makes you need more, then a valuim, but i could be wrong.....

have you ever went through detox before??

No, I haven't really been tapering.  Tried to in the past but have always messed it up.  I pretty much always split my pill and take half when I get up and the other half in the evening.  Based on the way they feel, I would say that a MS 30 is comparable to 2, maybe 3 Vicodin ES.  Something like that.

Also, one other question.  It said in the Thomas Recipe that valium or some other benzo is the best to take, and to take xanax only if it's the only thing available.  Anybody know why that is?  Is it because xanax is more adictive?

Thanks everybody.

Welcome to the forum. This is a great place to find help and get support.
IMy doc (drug of choice) was vicodin, and i dont 'knwo how tha tcompares w/ ms contin. My guess would be what ever you experienced before when you didn't have a pill for 30 hrs., is probably about what you will experience now. You said you took your last half pill. Have you been tapering?
