Hydrocodone

I've been taking Norco 10/325 for my back again. Kicked the habit 2 years ago and remember the pain of the withdrawal and depression. I've been taking up to 10-12 a day for 10 days and am afraid of withdrawal. I have 10 left and am afraid. What should I do. My back does hurt but I will not be like I once was, I refuse. I have today off but I know work will be horrible if I quit C/T... I'm scared and I don't want my wife to fear for me during my depression and withdrawal. HELP.. have I been on them too long already? How long will I hurt in withdrawal.

None today so far.. Got up at ten and went to the gym. I've thought about them of course but I'm gonna go as long as possible until my body gives me any crap on goin cold turkey. I don't think my tollerance and dependability was as high as I feared but we will see. Gonna take two with me to work and leave them in the car. Hopefully with work commotion I won't think about them. The pain I get worries me but here's to ADVIL... LOL    thanks everyone

Hey SuperRickHenry, I was on a ton of Vicodin for 1 1/2 years, ended up in the hospital detoxing, off of them for 3 weeks then went right back out for 5 months. I was totally terrified to stop because of the WD and also because the pills were my life. My WD were not bad. I think it's because I mentally told myself whatever happens, it's ok. I took it one hour at a time and took vits, liver detoxing herbs, Imodium, and a TON of gatorade.
You can do this. Now you know that one is too many and 1000 is never enough. Your an addict and can't take just one.
We are here for you.
I'm on day 30 and can't believe it!

Didn't take any till Noon and took my normal 3... and now at 3 pm I feel worse off than when I did before I took them at all. It's all real strange. Don't worry about the language! I promise you, even if you had gone for the 4-letter "F" word instead of "screw"...it wouldn't be anywhere near the worst word I've read on here, lol.

When you have legitimate pain issues, I don't honestly consider taking pain medicine during a flare-up a full relapse. It's a warning sign, certainly, especially if you find yourself incorrectly taking the prescription....but we are all human and we have the point at which we can no longer cope on our own with natural methods and we have to seek help. that's OK...it's NOT OK to lose control and slip back into full addiction, but it's OK to need help once in awhile.

You will be fine! I honestly think after 10 days you won't feel a whole lot..probably twitchy and anxious, probably a little runny in the bowel department, but I wouldn't guess you would have more than that. I could be wrong, but that's my experience with it.

It's much better that you caught yourself here, now, after 10 days and decided to make the change rather than continue to let it spiral. You should be proud that you're ready and willing to do this! Can you stop the pills right now and see how you feel by morning? that should give you an indication of how the detox is going to go...if you simply can't get through the day, ask your wife to give you some halfs to take or something along that line. I think the fear is exactly what's fighting you...and the sooner you start and see how it goes, the sooner your fear will evaporate.

Thanks for the quick response. I think its more the fear fighting me than the actual problem I will have. I just know how much it hurts to quit. I knew when I recieved the script I should of ripped the paper up. I think I'm just getting down on myself for relapsing. I know I needed it for the pain but darn it I'm so upset I took them to begin with.  I'm afraid I'll emotionally and physically hurt to bad for work and this job is to great to screw up. Excuse my language.. But I know I can do this. Just worried. Thanks again for the support...

Well...I know that after I detoxed, about 2 months later I ended up having to take pain meds for about a month due to impacted wisdom teeth and surgery...after my surgery when I stopped taking the meds I was terrified that I would withdraw, but I didn't.

Chances are if you stop now cold turkey, you would have minimal withdrawals, in my experience. I would try stopping right away, and give the remaining 10 to your wife. If you find that the withdrawals are unbearable, you could always try taking 2 a day for 5 days and then stop after that...but honestly, even with such a high dose 10 days you shouldn't be too badly off. Uncomfortable, probably, but nothing you can't manage if you've done this before.

But do you have anything planned for how to cope with the mental aspect of quitting? you say you "kicked the habit" 2 years ago, so I assume you had an active addiction at that time....if you think you might be at risk for relapsing or suffering from depression after stopping the meds this time, you seriously need to consider some aftercare with either a therapist or a support group.

Best of luck...and to warn you, there WILL be a little rebound pain, even if you don't have much withdrawal, BUT not nearly as much as you might have if you don't stop sooner than later!
