Suboxone Question???

Do any of you know if Suboxone is addictive?  Does it help with the depressed/irritated/tired feeling a lot of us feel after quitting narcotic drugs?  How does Suboxone make you feel?  I've read posts claiming that some people like the way it makes them feel.  Does Suboxone have opiates in them?  I am really trying to find out exact information on this drug to help delete the withdrawals.  Thanks to all of you!

yes suboxone can lead physical and mental addiction and dependence after more than 4 months and had higher doses but if you use for a year or more even at low doses you wills till feel some wd's though milder...the highest dose you can effectively be put on is 32mgs a day, and i was on that for 8 mths.. i had to switch to methadone so i cant explain the exact wd's feelings. i had a little experience with wd'ng from it..it takes also longer than most opiates, like 4-5 days too show up and then it hits you symptom after symptom and it last for over a month but the severity of it is dependant on how much and how long youve taken sub...more and more is being learned about suboxone and the wd's after long term use is like methadone...the average half-life is 37 hrs., the "opiate" feeling youll get which is for some ppl very mild and for some slightly strong last for up 10hrs, but youll be covered from any wd's and the main anxiety and cravings for opiates for at 36-48 hrs...everyone is different and it depends on your metabolism...the first few times taking it willl give you a mild high similar to prob. your DOC with a little less euphoria no rush, and it last longer so its expanded over that course of time, so yes uit can def. be addicting in every way, its in a way a replacement therapy very similar to methadone except for its chemical structure, duration,  but other than that you can get hooked on it after long term use, but it is hard to abuse and doestn really present itself as a drug you particularily want to use all the time, i was on it or 8 mths. and it worked great for me- christos

1-2 pills a day isnt bad.....

i think suboxone should ONLY be used if u have a horrible addiction, taking massive amounts of opiates a day, go thru extreme withdrawl if u run out of your pills, etc.  taking 1-2 a day shouldnt be that hard to quit...even cold turkey.  i wouldnt think taking sub is your answer here.  

worst case, if u cant stop CT, then taper down.  but, 1-2 a day is a small amount to even taper from!

does this make sense?

sorry it took so long to reply... I am now on 2 norcos or more a day. I have taken 1 a day when I am low, but 2 is what i usually stick with. i am not sure, but I think I have taken suboxone before. I was in a really bad spot where if there was a prescription bottle in front of me, I would look it up and if it was something I thought was good, I would take it. It said on the search that I found that it blocked the opiates from getting in your brain. So I went a head and took it. I went through the worst withdraws of my life! I was reading more and more about suboxone and found out that it will definately back fire if you have opiates in your system. I am just afraid to get off of it for a couple of days. Don't really even want to have to go through that.

If u have insurance, then AWESOME for u!!!!  Shoot, that's half the battle I think (having the money to pay for it).

First thing to do is go to suboxone.com  and put in ur zip code and get a list of sub drs within ur area (u can put in how far u are willing to travel).

Second thing is make a list of those drs.

Then, call EVERY one of them. I dont care if there are 200 of them.  Call them ALL.  If they dont take ur insurance, scratch off and move to the next dr.  The drs that will take your insurance....write down how long their program is, how much it will cost with ur co-pay for EACH visit.....all that.  


My boyfriend is still on it.  He is told to take 3 a day but he isnt taking that many now.  He takes about 2 a day.  But, he is going to start tapering down so eventually he wont be on anything.

I have heard, on here, that the wd are a b i t c h but my bf hasnt experienced that yet.  other people on here have ZERO  problems with getting off of it.

I live in austin and I do have insurance. I think my co-pay for the prescription is $50 and for a specialist dr. visit it is $45. I am not sure if the specific dr. I will go to will take the insurance though. Also, your boyfriend is still on it? Is he planning on taking it for a long time, or did they tell him to take it for 21 days. I've heard different things. Has he tried to get off and had withdraws or not stopped yet?

again, if u have ins then u pay a co-pay...if u dont.....oh, it is stupid expensive......

Where i live....it runs about $600 to $1,500.  Mind u, u have to pay it UPFRONT....PLUS the cost of the meds PLUS the urine / drug test PLUS the counseling sessions PLUS the group sessions....

that's pretty much everywhere in this area.

Also, there is a suboxone assistance program.......that can help u with the cost.....and the meds would be free  BUT good luck getting  in there.  The drs can only have 3 patients on it at a time...........and since every city has an piate abuse epidemic AND people without healthcare, it is next to impossible to get in.

If you DONT have insurance....it is about $7-$12 a pill.  Depends on how many u buy at a time ( at least that's how it is where i live )

If you have insurance....then, it goes by whatever  your co-payment is....

I am NOT on it.  My boyfriend is....it makes him NOT crave pills.....it gives him energy too....like pills do...he has a hard time sleeping on it though.

Alot of people say two things about sub:

#1)  Your trading one drug for another

#2) The withdrawls are horrible (coming off of it)....

I have read some people say, tho, there withdrawls from it were not bad at all.

I have been reading a lot of info about Suboxone for the past couple days and I think if you go to "Health Pages" at the top right hand corner of this page and then go to "Members Experiances coming off of Suboxone" that it will help with a lot of your questions. It helped with mine. The conclusion I came to was that if you only take them for a little while, it works good but nothing was said about withdraws if you do it that way. On the other hand, if you take it for a long time... longer than prescribed then the withdraws are a lot worse than coming off of morphine, vicodin, etc. Hope this helps. Let me know if you decide to take it, how much it costs and how it felt. Also if you get the withdraws. Good Luck!
