Why these other meds along with Sub?? Update on me ya'll =D
Hi all!
Hope this update finds you all in health and happiness. I just wanted to fill u in on whats going on with me. Well, to refresh your memory I have been addicted to Norco **Hydrocodone** 10/325mg's for about 2 years now, give er take a couple months over. Well at my worst time, I was taking about 20 a day. I started doing a taper with the help of my hubby and got down to about 10 a day. Im proud and glad to say that I am going to my FIRST appt with my new Suboxone doctor on May 1st. I have 5 days left of this hell of a life. Im very anchious and nervous at the same time. I really dont want to trade one drug for another, but I understand you dont get a "high" from Sub, so thats a good thing. Can anyone give me any insight on Sub?? I would like to stay on it long enough to change the patterns and habits in my life. Im scared of going c/t off the pills without Sub cuz of the withdrawls and fear of relapse. Im sooo tired of being tired if that makes any sense. Im sooo ready to get myself out of this hell I got myself into. You know whats kinda crazy to me??? Is this...some people say you take pills to get high, well ya, I guess. BUT, even taking 20 throughout the day...I never felt REAL high. I never slurred my speech, fell down, walked sideways...I was more the person that would clean, cook, take my kids to the park, ect. I did everything that I used to do before the pills came into my life. Was that because I never took more then 4 at one time?? I spread them out throughout the day. I just dont get it. I dont feel HIGH....sad I know. This IS my normal, so when people say that they are off the pills and feel normal again, Im kinda wondering how that is...lol. Does anyone understand what I mean?? One thing I have noticed being on these pills is, my sleep. I dont sleep well. Im up till all hours of the night, and get up with the boys at like 7am. My sleep is broken up, and dont know why.
Im just looking forward to this :new life" coming to me. Im determined to get rid of this for good. In 2 years I have never stopped once. I have NEVER been a day without them. Ive NEVER been through withdrawls. Im deathly scared of w/d to be honest. How long do you think I should stay on the Sub? I do have health insurance and it only covers all but 20 percent. SO my first visit is 385.00 for all the tests and visit itself. I have to pay 77.00 of that only. Thats great, but what sucks is this...my insurance DONT cover the Sub. How much is that gonna cost ya think?? Im fine paying whatever. I need it, and want it. Im ready! I will keep u all posted on my progress. This site has been a wonderful tool and the advice is amazing.
Oh ya, and my doc is giving me like 5 other meds to go along with the Sub just "incase" i need it. I guess hes giving me this...

i dont know about the 2mg pills, i have heard they are more expensive...
the 8 mg tabs can run from anywhere from 5-8 bucks a piece. i go to walgreens also, i pay $7.10 a piece for the 8 mg tabs,,but it seems to vary by state to state.
also make sure they have sub in stock, not all pharmacies keep it stocked on the shelf, you may have to order them to make sure you have them when you need them...

catapress, aka clonidine- is a blood pressure medication, it works wonders, when your in WD's it causes a spike in blood pressure which makes your WD;s symptoms worse.
Neurontin- i take this daily for my FMS, it works on pain and is also prescribed to prevent seizures, how it works is unknown...
relafen- is a type of NSAIDs, there are a lot of warnings with this med, you should google it and read.
bentyl-is used to treat spasms in the stomach and intestines, it is also used to treat irritable bowel syndrome.
librium- is for anxiety, it is in a class of drugs called benzodiazepines...which is addictive, but helps, just be careful.
neurontin, librium and catapress all cause drowsiness, but do wonders for any withdrawal symptoms you may have.
you will be fine...of course you know you have to be in WD's before you take your first dose. you should feel normal, yes, you will be able to tell the difference between what you think is normal now and how you will feel after you find the right dose, the 2 main factors are NO withdrawals should be evident and NO cravings either.
as for the time you should stay on sub is a personal choice to be discussed with your doctor. some think short term is best, but not always. simply taking sub to avoid WD's, in MY opinion-thats all it does, it helps you avoid withdrawals, but when the sub is gone, you are still left as the same person you were before the sub.and still left with all the the things that led you to addiction to begin with,..it is IMPOSSIBLE to change your whole life, learn new behaviors, learn how to deal with stress and triggers and change anything else related to your addictive lifestyle in a matter of days, remember, this is MY opinion and experience .
but short term has worked and so has long term....like i said, this is a personal choice on what you want and expect from your treatment and recovery.
i have to also stress that therapy and/or meetings is a must, aftercare is a must and should be required with sub treatment.

Its best if the last few days of takeing your pain pills that you tapper down slightly. You don't need to drop down to much, just don't over do that last day of pills. You need to be in withdrawels for about 12-24 hours before starting the Sub.
You can get Precipatated withdrawels if your not in withdrawels enough and theres still to much opiate in your system, when you start the Sub. Its like withdrawels x 10. I experianced this within about 12 hours after my first Sub dose. It went away after about 10 hours, but it was pretty bad.

what do u mean by precipated w/d?? i dont mean to sound stupid....lol. What should i take the day before i go in?? like none, so im REAL SICK when i get there in the morning?
P.S. Just don't do alot of them on your last day, if anything, do less. You don't want to go thru precipatated withdrawels when you start the Sub.
Thanks for the replies. I dont know if feeling like this is normal, or is this something I should be concerned about? Like I said, I am going to the Dr on the 1st, and I know this for sure. I am for sure wanting to stop this life, and be normal again. My thing is this. I found my hubbys hiding spot and know I had well enough of the Norco to last me...but the way my mind is working is telling me, "hell...this is your last hoo-raw, so might as well finish these up, since they will no longer be in my life". I just dont want to "waste" them! Does that make sense??? Its almost like Im sayin my goodbyes??!! I dont know. I know I need to take them so Im not sick till then, but I dont need to be taking the "extras"!! Thats not a bad sign is it?? Believe me, I am SOOO ready to stop this. I cant wait...but on the other hand...its more like, well I got them, and Im starting my new life on the 1st and not lookin back...but I cant seem just to keep the minimal amount to get me till the last day of this month, so I can be in w/d when I take my first dose of the Sub. Crazy...just crazy how the mind of an addict works....

The changes that happen to us while takeing the pills, happens so gradually, we don't see it. We think we're feeling normal. But when your off the pain pills, you'll be able to see the difference. LOL You're gonna be amazed at the difference.

I dont have health insurance at all.. I pay around $250 for a 45 suboxones and the doctor is around $165.00 each visit.. Be thankful you have the insurance to cover the office visits..
I don't think you have to go c/t to succeed. I think you have to come to the realization you are ruining your life and you are sick and tired of it. Once you feel normal and loose the cravings I can't think of doing it ever again.
Thanks! Ya, your right, cuz right now Im on maybe 3 hours of sleep and have been up since 7am, and without the pills, i couldnt have made it. Sad to say. So what do you think about what people are sayin, about how its not good to just NOT go through the withdrawls cuz you wont end up suffering enough to hate the dam things! I can see how they can say that, but its not just being sick that makes you realise they are ruining your life and health.
Well, I hope hes a good doc anyway. I havent met him...but his nurse gave me alot of info and told me that he has ALOT of patients and hes a really great guy and doc! **fingers crossed**...

Sunny are you still on the sub and if not how hard was it to quit taking. Pdiddy I would think the other meds are there to help you succeed. I don't know what they do but thats my guess. My pills cost me 5:00 a piece from the phamacy. I only take one a day so that is a whole lot better than 40.00 dollars a day. As far as sleep, you don't get sleep on hydro and thats why we need them to do all the regular things in our daily routine because they give us the engergy to get through. As far as the high its not really a high but more like a good warm happy feeling all the time. Atleast that is how it starts out. Sound like you have a good doctor that really wants to help. Ok, i was wondering if Hydrocodone sometimes made you a crabby *****?? lol. Is it from taking to many?? My husband said Im hot, Im cold...he never knows how I will be. But the one thing I crab about is something any woman would crab about, ya know? He just throws that in my face as HIS defense I think. Cuz honestly, Im NOT crabby, EVER! Maybe once in awhile, but who isnt...on OR off the pills!?!?
Also, is it bad that I never went without pills, and never went through w/d? Does that ruin my chances when it comes to stayin clean? Im really focused on this, and I made a promise to myself that I will do this...but some have said that you "should" go through w/d just so you HATE the drug...cuz you feel like such ****! I dont know...just give me your opinion on that...thanks! **I know, I know, Im asking alot of you all...theres alot to answer in this post...Im sorry!**
