  Hi, this probably sounds really weird, but have any of u that have taken opiates and stopped either cold turkey or tapering, ever had excessive saliva in your mouth, constantly running down your throat?  I read somewhere that when u take opiates that it suppresses a hormone that controls your salivary glands.  So if anyone has experienced it what did u do for it, and how long did it last?  I drink lots of water, have tried Benadryl, and everything else and nothing helps!  I have no appetite, and if I do eat it gets so much worse after!  Thanks in advance! ..........Teri :)

Teri I have to get better at putting my thoughts down. It is pretty steady the first 2or 3 nights then it became an intermittent nuisance I think early this morning my nose was running a little bit but is pretty much gone.i did keep a roll of toilet paper right with me. tell yourself you fighting the flu. Oh' I think I was reading the posts  here 24 hours for 3 days. it really helped me. b patient time will seem to slow down a little bit tried to move the clocks away from wherever you resting.   Hi Bama, I'm tapering methadone at 2.5mg a day now so u think it will still only last as long as the flu?  Gosh, I sure hope so!!!!  I'm going CRAZY!  It feels like all I do is swallow.  I haven't been sweating much at night, just kinda that sweat/cold thing during the day.  Before the methadone though I used to take lortab, perc, oxy, and when I wouldn't have any I remember I would always get this same thing with the saliva, then once I would take something it would totally go away.  It seems like every time I taper down again on the methadone it gets worse!  Anyway, thanks for all of your comments!!!!.....Teri:)

Hey terri remember this will only last as long as the flu. i know it stinks. and you have no appetite right now. but please try to drink small sips of gatoraide and eat somethin light.. do you sweat at night?? i did. sometimes a sticky sour smell ugh. i still sweat alot. lol. U can do this i know you can..

I'm 7 days clean I've been running saliva out of my eyes nose  and it's been kind of hard to swallow I kinda think it's just trying to lubricate from being awake for 7 days Tonight it seems to have stopped. A lot of tissue

When I quit using, I literally felt like I had saliva running down my chin all the time!

Wow. i never gave that one much thought. now that you mentioned it....yes i was gagging on ky spit for a few days. remember our body is resting itself. it does all kinds of weird things

You can try some over the counter motion sickness medications-a lot of them contain anti cholinergics,,that means it decreases secretions. My mouth is dry,,mine is caused from anti depressants though. Hope this helps~Bkitty
