Im a recovering addict , My drug(s) of choice were Hydro's , Percs and Oxy's. i would take 50-60 10/325 percs a day and I did this for about 3 years total. I got off of them with suboxone and then weened off of the sub on my own  and now and completely sober and love life. i keep reading about xanax and peoples addiction to it , Whats the big deal with it....what is the high like? Im just curious I promise.....Im In NO way interested in taking them , Ive learned my lesson with drugs , I dont drink , smoke...anything anymore.I Had a friend who was addicted to them...Keyword (HAD) He is now in jail because of them and I would ask him what was the high like....did it resemble the oxy? And he would tell me there was no high?????? Just puts him to sleep LOL. Is this true?Again Please believe me when I tell you I am very very happy being sober , this is 100% curiousity

There are many,many symptoms of addiction that dont get a person high in the way your thinking. Smokes for instance dont get you high,shopping,food. None get you high in the physical way but addiction isnt about the physical effects.You can physically quit something over and over but if you dont address the mental aspect you"ll keep useing. I guess picking would be a good example.

is xanax just has bad has valium? Im new to this....I have been clean for 30 days from oxy, went to rehab twice & this tome the sent me home on revia 50 mg. BUT now i have been taking valium to keep me calm & im starting to run out, well i WD

I take xanax daily for anxiety and to help me fall asleep.  I have for the past 3 years.  Before that only occationally but the anxiety got worse ( I am bipolar).  There was never a high, just calming.  I have had to up my dose over the years and am planning on working to lower it and try to use it on an as needed basis again.  I have never heard of anyone getting high on them though.

when used properly xanax is for people who suffer from extreme anxiety and panic attacks. I'm not advocating its use, because I know they are very addictive and easy to build a tolerance for. However, anyone who legitimately suffers from this horrible condition will tell you that it is very disruptive to your daily life, and medication is the only way they are able to be active members of society. Remember I said when used properly...There are plenty of people out there who are not addicts that take xanax without abusing it. If you have had problems with addictions in the past or are a current addict you starts xanax it will just become just another addiction for you. and the withdrawl is horrible.

I have wondered about this myself. I have a brother in law who takes them on a daily basis and I asked him once what they do. He pretty much told me the same thing...they make you a bit sleepy. I guess once you adjust to them, the sleepy feeling might leave and you would just feel mellow? Hmm, either way I am with you....I want no part of that.

I realize that...But thanks for the response , anyway..................................................My question was How can you become addicted to something that doesnt offer a high? I loved the opiates because of the high , therefore I became addicted and I am totally ashamed of that. alcoholics chase the high..............So is it safe to assume there is a high of some sort associated with Xanax or maybe just some people are affected differently from it? My friend always swore to me that there wasnt for him , thats why he mixed in the opiates with it
