My precious mother was a hard Xanax addict and Lorcets but Xanax was her first choose always! She had been on Xanax aleast 20 yrs and could take as many as 20 2 mg a day! She called me on that thurs Aug. 1 2013 an said she was changing and going into rehab , but little did I know she had got her hands on methadone and KNOWING it kills people she took it and Xanax! And it took her life and not just hers but mine and my sisters and my brothers and her husband~who can barely go on day to day without her!:( Its WILL kill you she had taken the combination a dozen times, but this time it took her! She had very high tolerance but she couldn't hold up to it! She sat there in the recliner and stopped breathing and shattered my world! Its a family illness so if not for yourself spare your family the unbearable hurt!
My friend had been on Methadone for 10 years and the Xanax for 5, before that he was on Valium for several years. He was hardcore as they get and it still killed him, even after being on it for years.
He was my best friend, who I had known for over 35 years, and I was at his house the day before he died. I got the call from his mother the next morning telling me he was dead.
The 23rd of this month will be 5 years since his death and I still miss him to this day. I would give anything to spend one more day with him laughing it up like we used to, or be there with him to prevent his death.
It's totally your decision to make and you're the one it will effect, but I don't want that to happen to you.
thankyou for your comment and I am very sorry for your loss. I am definitely thinking this may not be the right medication for me at this time. its just very hard because I have done very well on methadone past couple years but my anxiety has slowly gotten worse and gets to point you just want take anything make go away, but I definitely don't want to risk my life.thank you again
I had 2 close friends who both died from taking Xanax and Methadone at the same time.
One was prescribed Methadone for pain and Xanax by the same doctor. He had decades of drug use behind him, and had been on that combination for at least 5 years. I'd done them both with him a number of times and watched him hallucinate people walk through the house, talk to them, and he couldn't believe I didn't see them too.
One morning the guy who had been staying with him went for a 15 minute walk to get cigarettes and came back to find him sitting at the kitchen table where he left him, only dead. The doctors said he just stopped breathing, and the combination can suppress the breathing reflex, so that is exactly what happened.
The other had only taken Methadone a few times but had been on Xanax for several months. He told the people he was with he felt sick and went home, laid back on his bed, passed out, and aspirated on his vomit.
It took them dying for me to hit my own bottom and get on Suboxone so I could get clean. Now I've been off Sub for the 2nd day and am clean of all drugs.
I highly recommend against taking them together, even though I've done it myself. I was lucky but I know when not to press my luck and stopped while I still had the chance. You might not be so fortunate.
I go to a methadone clinic once a week to get my take homes. my psychiatrist would be the one giving me the Xanax and she knows im on methadone I think that why she gave such a low dose and I believe I can take a benzo if I tell the clinic but most likely will no longer get my take homes or not as much as I do. again my main concern was mixing the two, my psyc. knows im on methadone but I also know some arnt very educated on methadone
Warning - if you are in a program where you go get your methadone each day etc, you better tell them. My husband was on xanax and they thru a fit at the clinic snd ended up discharging him from the program. Guess it is part of the gov't regulations. No benzos. He gave them hus prescription list at intact then they random tested him and kucked him off.
So run it by them first.
I know a lot of people who take both as prescribed. It can be a very dangerous mix if abused. I would like to think that under a doctors supervision and orders, you should be ok.
Do you go to a methadone clinic? Or are you prescribed methadone by your doctor?
The reason I ask is because some clinics out there will not allow you to take any kind of benzo, even with a doctors order. Every clinic is different though :)
Good luck!
