zoloft for anxiety and depression?

Good morning peeps! As many of you probably know i was prescribed zoloft for anxiety and depression.I started yesterday. My doc said it has a calming effect.WOW !I feel like i am going to crawl out of my skin!I'm shaking so bad i can barely type.Does my body have to get used to it?Do i need something to mellow out this jittery feeling until i get used to it?I think it is making me loose my appetite too.Anyone else had this happen while just starting to take zoloft?I could really use some input.I almost feel like i am going through w/d's again.Horrible!thank you...............Bruce

it can take some trial and error to find the right one. call your dr., this morning and tell them whats going on. Zoloft may not be the right one for you. i found that Cymtbalta and Effexor work the best for me. let us know how it goes. but it sounds like zoloft isnt going to work for you. usually when you start antidepressants you feel tired and mellow and till your body adjusts.

damn...

it did nothing to me except knock me out.  i'm sure he started you on the lowest dose didn't he?  like i told you before, the first night i took it, i slept the whole next day too.  for the first week, when i would take it at night, it felt like i had taken a zanax or something...i could "feel" it come over me and put me to sleep.

did you also take the lunesta last night?  i don't know...just wondering...if so, you started 3 new meds. in one day...which one is it?...or maybe the combination.

are you sure that it's just not low blood sugar this morning?...lol...i shake really bad every morning after my coffee and have to eat straight sugar to stop the shaking...give it a try and see if the shaking stops...usually a heaping tablespoon for me.

hope this helps,
kim

Hey Roof

What BP med did your doc give you?  I agree with Lizzie Lou - I don't think the Zoloft would do that after just one day on it.  But every system is different.  I never took Zoloft.  I had the Lexipro and I never got jittery from it.  But I did have to go through 4 BP meds till i found one that didn't make me feel wierd - like a headache across the back of my head and a "zippy" feeling.

I think your BP med is affecting you - not the zoloft.

Hey roof-TEE,

I read the posts below and wanted to throw a few things out there. Just suggestions.

From what I understand, one shouldn't be able to feel any effect from Zoloft for AT LEAST a week, and usually more like 10 days or so. I know you have other medical issues so this might be different for you, but I seriously doubt it. Just to be sure, call your physician about what you're feeling today.

I'm not a doc, but was an MA at a Medical Group for over ten years right around the time the first string of Anti-Ds came on the market. I also take them myself--but what works for me is not the least bit relative to what's gonna  work for you.

Every person reacts differently to each AD. While there might be some common side-effects, you never know exactly how your body will react until you take it.  It might appear that one AD gets more votes than another on this site (usually it's the latest that's out on the market) but really, it's a totally mixed jury on which is The Best---simply because it's going to be differnt for each individual.

I think you're going to have to team up with your physician and go through the motions of trial and error to discover what works for you. Hopefully that will be a quick and painless process for you, but sometimes you have to try a few.

All the Best,

Athena

Good Morning!I only took the zoloft this morning. My BP med is Zestril.I will take that tonight because it actually makes me sleepy. It seems like every drug has an opposite effect on me than what is expected.Like hydro gives me energy and makes some just lay around and watch tv.Methamphetamine makes me just chill until i come down then i'm sick for 3 days.I dont know. Thanks for the input.God Bless.................Bruce

One more thing--are you on ANY other meds your doc don't know about? If so, one med might be contraindicated if you're taking another (meaning the two do not mix well). Call your Doc.

Hey, Just wanted to let you know the first week I took zoloft I felt the same way, now that I think about it he gave me some zanax in case I had anxiety attacks.  It takes a while for the meds to get in your system.  Hang in there and if it doesnt work then you can try something else, but, it does take about a week..  Huggs G
