Stopping Oxy - Please help

Hi All,
I've been taking OXI IR for 1.5 year now due to awful Mirgins...  I've seen my doctor once a month and monitor everything all the time - I've decided that these pills have to much of a strangle hold over me, ever time i feel a slight pain in my head i take one, when it's a Awful migrain i take one... I've never taken the pills unless I've had pain...

I'm currently taking 6 or 7 pills per day ( 5MG) each... some days it's only 4 pills ... the most is 8...

I called my Doctor today and told him that I want to stop these pills and he said it's up to me as I've been diagnostic with Chronic daily Migraines....

So what should I expect?  I'm stopping cold turkey next week...

I have Clonnazapn ( I've been on it for 8 years) to help with any anxiety, I also have some sleeping pills due to not being able to sleep last year... My Doctor also called in a Script for me for some type of blood pressure pill to make sure stopping the OXI wouldn't cause medical issues....

Is there any advice for me?

I want to repeat I've been on these pills on from my Doctor for a REAL pain issue for a year and a half and I've never taken a pill unless I'm in pain ( which is everyday).... I have NEVER crushed these, snorted these, injected these... NEVER

my reasons are I would like to be off these for at least 3-4 months to evaluate how my normal pain relief for my migrians - my fear is that I'm having rebound migrians due to the normal use ...

Advice and thoughts for me please?

It sounds like your doctor did prescribe you the best type of medication to help with opiates withdrawals. Now you have to stay away from sugars, sodas or anything that will cause you anxiety through the process. Walking is helpful   and so as warm baths. I am happy you have a physician following you through .
Wish you a speedy and easy withdrawal. All the best!!

So glad you have a partnership with your doctor. People here in the US are so quick to discount the CAN healthcare system, but I'd much rather have your system with doctors who aren't money-motivated and liability-fearing. Cheers to you for making progress!

I saw my dr and she was very supportive of my desire to get off the meds. She pointed out that high strength opiates are not a solution, which I knew but was glad to hear from her. So far, my pain HAS been difficult. Especially with two toddlers to care for. But my energy and sense of humor more than compensate for the pain. I haven't felt this alive in years! My husband sees a dramatic change, too, and is thrilled.
To anyone out there looking for a way to get off fentanyl or opiates in general, don't underestimate the value of a clear and present  mind.

UPDATE
Hi all - well i just started day 5 now! 22 hours till i hit day 6 :) ....

just having a hard time sleeping and a little anziety - but other than that I'm feeling good...

I had Pizza and Chips last night :)  My Mirgains are killing me but I'm not going to think about it for another few weeks till i meet with my doctor - I dealt with these mirgains for 10 years before taking pain meds so whats another few weeks... This is all about proving to myself that I can stop this whenever I decide to.. I'm just one of those people -

I want to ask everyone something , I keep reading about how OXY will make you cloudy and foggy - it never did for me... I never got a buzz at all! and I only used it when my head was bad... after day 2 I could see how this would be a problem for people due to the small WD i had but i think it was because i was on a semi low dose and I had some meds to help ease the WD... but my advice to anyone right now ( I know i'm only on day 5)

is to take a week off work, talk to a DR and get meds to help with the WD...  I was so worried because of all the things i read online but everyone will have a different experience - I'm so thankful for all the well wishes from everyone!  I will post on Sunday when it's 8 days ... God Bless everyone!

Starting day 4!

I had an awful Migrian yesterday and antacid in my stomic was awful so i was sleeping it off... also i had no energy yesterday but this happened for years when i got Mirgians so i have no way to judge if it was the part of any WD...

that's pretty much the story.... I don't like the Clonidine because it makes me SUPER dizzy...  so I'm stopping that ( instead of 4 a day going to 2 a day , then 1) then gone!

my last pill was Sunday at 10AM... so it's now Wend at 11:10AM...  starting day 4 now.... I do feel better, more energy... I'm going to go for a nice walk today... I'm hoping the worst is now behind me! ( I took the week off of work for this and I was up for 5 hours last night working) lol...

My Trigger for Migrains is the weather... so when there is a change if 5-7 Degress i get very SICK and the pain is awful, bring me to an ER awful for days which is why 4 doctors decided this was the only route for me after 10 years of losing my life... Today I'm sick - the weather is awful and my head hurts, my stomic hurts... i've been lying down for 4 hours now...  it's just an awful feeling - they say the weather will be beter tomorrow so I will have to tuff it out till then i guess

UPDATE -
So I'm now past 2 days and on the first hour of starting day 3...

I feel pretty good today truth be told... the first night my aniziety was at a 10 out of 10... last night 5 out of 10....

My DR called me up last night around 9PM as i left him a message ( he is an amazing guy) and I told him what the issues were... We talked alot and I told him about posting online... he said it's VERY hard to put myself in anyones shoes as the USA and Canada are very diffrenet... IE in canada the MAX dosage for the pill i take is 20MG in the USA it can be 100...  he also read a study to me that in the states only 15% of doctors give out the IR of OXY - IR stays in your system for only a few hours instead of the 12 hours or ER... Very smart guy...

But i'm so happy for the all the amazing support on this website!!! I just want to make it to 4 days... so I'm half way there and lets hope the next 2 days are a little better....

current WD
a little anzity
LOL I have gas ... haha ( since i started)
the Clomandi makes me a little light headed

but that's it for now... I will keep everyone updated tomorrow...

Thank you for your comment....  when i wake up tomorrow it will be day 2.... I'm happy and looking forward to it! my only issue is that I'm worried about getting my mirgans back...

think about it - in 10 years i tried over 10 medications, then went to 2 nuros... 2 MRI'S Nerve Blocks and Botox treatment... only after 10 years  when i was 31 did i start these polls... truth is it was the only thing that ever took away the pain... I'm not stopping the pills because i feel additiced , i'm just stopping because I think it's always a smart thing to do and take a step back and see where the pain is 2 years later... maybe it's not the right reason I don't know...

Nock on wood I haven't had really bad Withdrawl.... Sleeping is hard and Aziext but that's pretty much it... I'm more worried about the weather tomorrow as it's going to Rain in Toronto Canada ( where i live) and the weather is one of my triggers....

I've heard so many people tell me so many things... but in 10 years taking around 14 meds, stopping all meds , I don't drink , 2 Nuros, Nerve Blocks and Botox ( WHICH HURTS LIKE HELL)....I'm scared of having to live in pain

Just like you, I am choosing to be done with my medication, but mine has been a much stronger one called fentanyl. I was prescribed it in doses up to 100 mcg for severe hip issues which will likely lead to surgery this year on both sides.
My issue is that I don't know where I really stand with my pain anymore. I don't like the fog of meds and want to be as aware as possible going into my treatments.
I did a lot of research (weeks worth) and am now on day 2 of a major medication drop from 100 to 50 of my med. I actually feel fine, and it's because I was told about loperamide (generic immodium). I've been so surprised at the lack if physical withdrawal symptoms so far. Fentanyl is about 100 times more powerful than morphine, so I was prepared for an absolute nightmare. I have taken about 8-16mg of loperamide every 8 hours and am more tired than usual, but the restlessness, chills, sweats and blood pressure changes are not an issue at all so far.
Like you, I have always taken my medication as prescribed (fentanyl is a very scary, deadly medication when abused) so I don't know how this would work for others who have abused their meds. But I thought I would share in hopes someone else could avoid such horrible things as wd as I did. Good luck to you.

I had an addiction to oxys.  I would take 30 mg roxys and a lot more than you a day.. I can't tell you how youre withdrawal will be but I started taking those due to health problems and I took them For so long my body became dependant when I stopped one day i realized I couldn't bc the withdraws were So bad.. that's when my addiction began. I had to go to rehab I was put on subuxone And I've been clean for two years. If you can't do it on you're own dont worry there is always help.
