Talking to my doctor about my planned detox.

Looking for advice and tips on speaking to my doctor about my opiate addiction. I have a planned out of town detox with help from a close friend taking care of. Of course I'm embarrassed and scared, but I know how important my honesty will be to my health. How can I get the bewt out of my doctors visit?

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
It is very wise to include your personal physician in your detox plan. When we schedule a patient for detox in my clinic MDS Drug Detox, we encourage our prospective patient to put us in touch with their doctor. This is important on many levels: first, we get a more complete medical history and are able to discuss past and current issues that may affect our strategy; second, we discuss any pain issues that may have existed or may still exist and work out a plan of how to address it in the future without the opiate; third, we like to bring the patient's doctor up to speed as to what we are about to do and what medication the patient will be on as a result of our treatment. This is also our opportunity to answer any questions the physician may have and address any concerns.
So, I highly advise you to get your doctor and whatever the facility is you are going to talking together. If the facility shows any resistance to openly talking with your physician, I would recommend you to find another.
