Saliva Cortisol Results

DHEA 6.5 ng/ml range 2-23
1.  3.4    3.7-9.5
2.  1.9    1.2-3
3.  .5       .6-1.9
4.  .5      .4-1

I did not realize until after but I took my adrenal supplement after my first test and had been taking it for a week.  Looks like I am pretty low across the board.  So now what?  I am reluctant to share this with my endo.  Could this be why my thyroid levels are not increasing?  Do I need to supplement?

I can understand about the TSH-only docs... I am not in love with them either.

I just hunt for other endos that don't do just TSH.

Its really hard to know what is reputable and what is not.  I do not really think I have a choice and need to go to an alternative doc.  My endo is very tsh focused and I know she is only going to get me so far.  She is increasing me in baby doses.  She would only raise from 100  to 112 because the tsh improved.

Are these reputable medical sites? Are you reading them with a critical eye?

I kinda fall where I finally found an endo MD who I batter constantly about my quality of life so he listens vs another one who goes by numbers only and could care less about what I say so I don't really recommend her.

On the holistic side - I tend to worry that they make a boatload of $$$ by selling me stuff, so of course they are going to sell me as much as possible! So it seems like a conflict of interest. It is only just a tiny bit better at the doc office.

I don't have adrenals or a thyroid - I replace both. I have to. I recently had the *care less about doc* mess with my meds and lower my thyroid - but I did not ever change my HC dose. I felt awful until I went back up and now I feel better - but it was all thyroid. The thyroid honestly messed more with my androgens than anything else.

I would like to revist these results.  Is it possible that if I get optimized on my thyroid, my cortisol will follow?  Should I look into getting on HC?  I have had a consult with a holistic doctor and I have been holding off due to costs.  Everything I read seems to indicate to treat both thyroid and adrenals at the same time, and some of what I read says adrenals first.

Few things in life are instant - and if you think about it, it took a while for your thyroid to go *off* and it is going to take a while to get it back *on* again.

Yes, it takes testing every 6 weeks after each dose change. It once took me a year to get my dose right. I hope you get yours done faster.

TSH 3.12 0.10 - 5.50
Free T4 0.9 .8 - 1.7
Total T3 44 50-170

just in this morning, I keep getting worse.  I just added another 25mcg for a total of 100...test again in 6 weeks?  I am sure she will ask me to wait longer.

Years? Why did it take so long?

Things on the internet should be taken with a grain of salt, so to speak. Not everything out there is exactly true, and even I make errors (gulp!).

It can be very confusing so you have to go to a reputable source and not every source out there is truly reputable. It is good to do research, and then look for some studies (and yes, I know studies can change - coffee is good! coffee is bad!) but see what makes sense, how many people in the study, how long it went on etc. Some of the sites that I consider to be less that stellar have *doctors* associated but no real studies, just their own papers but nothing really to back it up.

It can be super difficult, when you feel lousy and want a quick fix, to try to get a quick and easy *cure* - (been there, done that - tried many!!!) but bodies differ and what works for one may not work for another, even with script meds.

75mg is a middle dose - aka to me, where the doc should put you to adjust you. I take 175! But I have no thyroid at all. And it took years to get here. BTW I have taken every dose from 75 up to 175 - all the pretty colors.

I have been lurking in a ton of facebook groups trying to educate myself.  I thought that you cannot improve thyroid levels if you have low cortisol and visa versa?  I am so confused on what I need to do next.

Currently taking 75 mcg levothyroxine and due for an increase in a few days after labs.

I don't know the supplement you are taking or the test you took so it is pretty hard to comment.

It looks to me like you got higher at night - which is a loss of diurnal rhythm. I would interpret that as what happened to me - Cushing's syndrome. I could not sleep. It also did lower my thyroid.

Keep in mind though that it can take time for a thyroid dose (T4) to take effect. It is a storage type of medication and it can take up to 6 weeks for a change. Then you have to work from there. It can take a while to get the correct dosage for the body. I have no idea what dose you are taking.
