vmvnvp right about alcohol canceling out the meds....u smoke pot or do other drugs?r u a Bi-Polar 1 or 2?sometimes it takes trial/error to find the right combo of meds to help.....and the system struggles with the adjustment.Robin Williams is my fav bi-polar 1 and sober alcoholic/addict!
I can tell you that the meds won't work because they're trying to increase the happy feelings but alcohol is a depressant so it's lowering them. Basically you're cancelling the meds out with the alcohol. Besides the fact that drinking alcohol and taking any kind of meds can potentially kill you. It sounds to me that the alcohol is causing more problems for you. I would get help if I were you. Good luck!
Although you aren't seeing any physcial problems from alcohol, the dependence is there, as in you feel you can't focus without it. Have you thought about quitting for a week and seeing how you feel. If you can, you may not be an alcoholic. Bipolar people, such as myself, tend to want to self medicate. Do you take a mood stabilizer for your anxiety or Bipolar? Our liver isn't designed to take excessive drink. Can you just drink 3 beers, mixed drinks aday and stop after that, you may not be an alcoholic. Can you change doctors or have a serious talk with this one. I am in recovery from alcoholim and also have bipolar. It is common for us to want to manipulate how we feel and use chemicals thus the mood stabilizer for bipolar or anxiety. We want to change what is going on inside us. It appears you need a solution, whether it be medication or a program, therapist.
