End Stage Alcoholism

I Posted my question two days ago without anyone out there answering my question I will give it one more go.

In my Post of Getting Out my question regarding my 64 yr old fiance extremely heavy smoker and drinker. When anyone is in End Stage Alcoholism (third/fourth stages) how long does these stages last before they pass away?

As stated my fiance, has been diagnosed  back in 2006 with COPD, Cirrhosis of the Liver, deeply depressed, malnutrition, physiological problems. gastrological problems, fatigue just too name a few Medical Condition he has. He refuses all medical treatment and does not have any Doctor treating him. Can some Medical Professional please give me some answer. Please do not say he needs too get help as I've been trying for years to do this, this is why I asking here from some advise if possible. He also every day take Over-the-Counter Medications, Aspirin 3 a day, Pain Relief/ Sleep Aid (with Acetaminophen 500mg 2 a day) Primatene  Mist Inhaler three bumps 4 times a day) St John Wort 900mg 6 a day .These are the ones I'm aware of, he could be doing others I'm not aware of.

I was told that he has a four year survival rate if he doesn't stop drinking if he's lucky, is this true?

My next door neighbor is an ER Nurse and she told me, it's still a miracle that he is alive let alone a function drunk. He starts drinking when he gets up every day around 8.30am. I arrived back from overseas two weeks ago after begin away seven months and have notice big changes in his physical appearance and attitude, he's become anger and meaner drunk. This is why I must get out for my own health. Please some answer my Posting.

i think your questions were well answered here.Since this man refuses to have a personal doctor no definitive timeline on how much longer he has on earth can be answered with certainty. The only thing certain is that he is on borrowed time!

Thanks for your reply. I have visited those links I've read all about the stages and the effects etc. I have asked my own Doctors, I have done lots of research and do understand everything you are stating.

hi. you could try the doctor's forum (click on 'doctors' at top of page) but they will still probably give you a general answer, there are a lot of unknown parameters here.

"I was told that he has a four year survival rate if he doesn't stop drinking if he's lucky, is this true?"

this could be true. the unknowns here are that survival rates or statistics are just that----derived from studies of large groups of people to come up with averages. and of course, "lucky" implies chance and uncertainty.

as far as the stages of alcoholism, they apply to behavior. stages of specific physiological conditions such as cancer are based upon things like organ function which can better indicate survivability and mortality. i'm sending you a link to a page that has information on alcoholism stages. hope this helps,   gm
