What can legally be done to get help for an alcoholic that is a binge drinker that ends up in the emergency room every other week lately. The hospital says that there is nothing that they can do for someone that is drinking themselves to death, that it isn't suicide and they can't help. My daughter is 32 and will be dead soon. She has been in the ER about 8 times in the last two months. Last night they took her again and her level was .4 and they didn't give her an IV they had her sit there and then wanted to release her about 3am she asked if she could stay longer so they kept her until about 6am. They make sure that they get her insurance info and then they ship her off. No suprise she has already started again this morning. I live out of state and I beg anyone I know to check on her and if she is down to call the police. I've called for a wellness check and they have taken her to the hospital, although they give you a lecture about if they don't want to go they can't force them. I keep reading that alcoholism is a disease, well the police and the hospitals treat them worse than dogs. I've tried every avenue and keep getting we can't help her she needs to hit rock bottom, well rock bottom for my daughter is death. I have run up many bills flying out to bring her to my home for a while, she won't stay long, I sober her up then she goes back home and last a few days and is right back at it. She went to an addiction specialist, and a psychiatrist but started drinking a few days later. They gave her trazadone to help her sleep, and now she has taken that with the wine. She only drinks wine, but she guzzles it. I am at my wits end, I will probably be calling the police to go out there again tonight, I have also asked that they take her to the hosp by her house that has held her before and will do a psych evaluation on her and they keep taking her to other hospitals that just keep turning her loose. She has so many hospital bills and yet no one has tried to keep her. She lives in Calif, if you have any ideas please let me know.
