I should probably add to make sure you tell your doctor how much you were drinking and how long ago you quit, this information will be critical to ensuring he/she prescribes the right medication for you.

Hello Jay,

Welcome to MedHelp! It's very good to hear you have a handle on your drinking now. The best way I can think to help you is tell you that anxiety and depression are very common once a person has stopped drinking. How long has it been since you stopped? Give it time and you should eventually feel back to your normal self. If it starts effecting your daily life to much then see you doctor. He/She can temporarily give you medication to get you back to feeling normal. Do be careful though, since you have had a pretty bad experience with alcohol "Xanax" should be avoided. This medication is commonly abused and is very habbit forming exspecially for someone with an addictive personality such as yours. I normally reccomend "Lexapro". I hope this helps you out.
