What do I do/say?

I have a close friend who called me about 2 weeks ago, incoherently drunk. He was rambling and was very depressed. The next day, he didn't even remember the phone call but confessed that he's had a drinking problem for about 4 years. He said he wants help but he only stops drinking for a day or so. I want to help him before anything bad happens or I have to tell his parents (he's 17). Is there ANYTHING that I can do to help him without getting him sent to rehab or something? I don't want him to lose trust in me or to hate me but he needs help.

**UPDATE**
My friend hasn't talked to me for weeks. There are a lot of videos o him smoking on snapchat. I'm very worried because I heard from another friend that he won't be able to graduate high school because of his grades. I'm worried that he could be slipping or have already fallen off the wagon. I'll update again when I have more information on him.

Great news.  It might be worth letting him know what happens to alcoholics, Cirrhosis, Alcoholic Hepatitis, all very unpleasant and preventable.  His health is another reason to stop before he does real damage.

**UPDATE**
I'm not sure if anyone is going to see this, or care, but with the supposed of just a few close friends, my alcoholic friend has started to coming to youth group at our church more frequently. He has been sober for almost 2 weeks and I know that isn't long but it's a start. I'm very proud of him and I tell him that so I hope that will keep him from going back to it. He even told me that a friend offered him alcohol yesterday and he said no.

i think you should talk to his parents and be completely honest.
