Will I have a healthier liver now?

I stopped drinking a bottle of wine every day of the week and only drink 3 bottles on the weekends but none or very little during the week so that is much better then what I was doing before which was killing a bottle of wine every night of the week plus adding excessive quantities of Vodka and cocktails on weekends will my liver be healthier and recover now because I don't bomber it with alcohol on a daily basis and just do it weekends?

As for researching alcoholism online I already did that and it said that alcoholism has nothing to do with how much you drink or how frequently it has more to do if it's affecting you in a negative way such as you neglect other things due to drinking, or if it's affecting your job in a negative way and a bunch of other's but it said the determination of alcoholism has nothing to do with how much or how little you drink.

were all going to die whether we drink or not life is not endless. Everyone's going to die one day whether we drink or not drink we have to realize this is that we all eventually die because life starts and then it ends. As for not having the money for a liver test well just to let you know I am jobless and I am on SSI and most of the time my family members buy the alcohol not me. And my mother keeps control of my SSI.

Seriously??   You come on an alcohol forum were we are either trying to stop drinking or we are in recovery and you ask that sort of question in your last post not to mention you ask me why 1 drink would be disastrous.  I actually feel bad for you as you havent a clue where you are headed by all your drinking.  You really need to read up on alcoholism.  You say you cant get a liver test due to the cost but you make sure you have enough money to buy liquor.  Thats messed up but guess what, that is addiction.  You can rationalize till the cows come home about your drinking both past and present.  I wish you a ton of luck cuz that is exactly what you will need if you dont stop your reckless behavior.

To answer your question why i cant have one drink....It's becuz i am an alcoholic and i wont stop drinking until i die and i mean 6 ft under.  This will be your fate too if you continue down this road.      All the best                sara

I would see a doctor but the thing is I don't really have a regular doctor and I'm not sure if a liver function test is free or not cause someone told me to know the exact condition of your liver is to do expensive tests I don't think I can do expensive tests because I might not have the money.

Yes I know I drank a bottle of wine every night plus plenty of Vodka shots and mixed drinks at weekends but I stopped doing this. This was in the past and now I realized all the pain and damage I was doing to my organs that they did nothing to deserve this punishment from me. I stopped drinking every night of the week and now I just drink a bottle which is about 4 drinks (and in my opionion 4 drinks is not excessive) every Friday, Saturday and Sunday and have the rest of the days off. I am doing much better now. I know it might still be more then what's recommended but at least I don't bomber my poor liver with a bottle of wine every night of the week 7 days of the week like I used to. I'm having much less now and that;s what matters. You didn't quite get what i said I was talking about the past when I said I'd drink a bottle every night of the week 7 days a week I don't do that anymore read my treads more carefully next time.

"just a few years"?  I think you're trying to convince yourself that it takes 20 years in order to qualify as abuse.  If you look at all the threads that you've put up on this forum, you'll see that you're asking the same question over and over.....you're just asking it in different ways.  Are you hoping to hear an answer that will make you feel all better?  A few years is long enough to become an alcoholic (not sure if you are one or not) and long enough to cause physical damage.  Ask any doctor and do all the internet searching on the subject that you feel is necessary.  This is why the recommended daily dose of alcohol is 1-2 drinks......not bottles....drinks.  And "no", the occasional over-indulgence will not hurt a normal person, but by your own admission you were drinking a bottle of wine per night, plus cocktails.  Now it's 3 bottles a weekend plus cocktails, holidays and whenever else you decide it's okay.

If I sound like I'm being a jerk to you, then I'm sorry, but I didn't come here to be liked.  I can remember when I was drinking like this, and I used every rationalization I could find to make myself feel like it was okay......because I wasn't one of "those people" (an alcoholic or a person with a serious problem).

If you're scared right now, then it's probably a good thing.  It's a wake-up call.  Once more, what is preventing you from seeing a doctor to find out where you stand?

After a period of long abuse, it can take time for your liver to recover. If you have done damage to it, then any alcohol at all is a bad idea.  I don't know if you're an alcoholic or not....if you're not, then you could potentially drink again in the future....BUT - if you want your liver to heal, you need to take some time off and stay completely sober.

I was diagnosed with Fatty Infiltration of the liver at one point, and it took about 6 months for it to go away (sober the whole time).  If you want to be sure, get an ultrasound or a CT Scan.

And......if you are able to take some time off, and then go right back to drinking 3 bottles per weekend, I think it's safe to say that you have an alcohol problem.  Normal people (adults) don't do this.  It took me a long time to realize it.  The people I knew in my earlier years (who drank like this) have either moderated, quit, or they're in terrible shape now.
