induced polyneuropathy

For about 15 days i've been having numbness and pins and needles all over my body. Things dont feels the same when my body touches anything. I first noticed this after a heavy night of drinking, when i woke up i felt these symptoms. Actually i've been drinking heavy this past year. So it seems like i might have alchol induced polyneuropathy. Does anyone have this, and did it get better ? According to literature, it gets better with vitamins and alchol abstinece.

Rod am I correct in saying that the alcohol damages many of your nerves and lack of blood flow through out your body causing the pins and needles effect? I also get the same thing mainly in my feet. I haven't found anything that helps it feel better other than rubbing the area helps a little. It can make it hard to walk especially when I first stand. I now have cirrhosis and it hasnt gone away but seems to have gotten better since I quit drinking 9 months ago.

It has not changed since I stopped drinking and I have learned to live with it, the Neurologist was certain that it was due to drinking and if I stopped it would stabilize and it has.....

Thanks for responding. Did your neuropathy get better? And was it caused by the alcohol?

Neuropathy is a very debilitating and painful illness, it is something I was Diagnosed with some years before I got sober. You need to see a doctor.
Neuropathy is something you are aware of but liver damage and other problems may not show signs or symptoms until they are well advanced. Take this as a warning from your body that enough is enough.

It's tough to diagnose yourself.  Whatever you've got, you'll probably feel better after some sober time, but you should get checked out by a doctor.  It's easier to treat a problem when you know what it is.  If you find out  that you do have an issue that is caused by drinking, then this might strengthen your resolve to stay sober.  It took me about 6 weeks to start feeling normal after my first detox. Then I experimented with on/off binge drinking for awhile, until many of the same problems returned.  The second time through, I saw a doctor and followed the advice.  It was about 4 more months afterward that I felt normal, but this will vary by individual.

Don't play games with your health and alcohol.  There are some illnesses from which you cannot return.
