Fluid on Brain

Back in 2010 I was diagnosed with two brain aneurysms. One was coiled; the other they had to do a craniotomy and inserted a titanium clip. I am now (and for quite some time) have been experiencing severe chronic nausea. Several times I have vomited. I've stopped taking every new medication I was put on in the hopes that it was one of them. However, the severe chronic nausea continues. Just last week I spent 2 days vomiting. We live in Ecuador so while in the states recently I had a gamut of testing done. All GI tests came back PERFECT! GI doc said to tell my GP to "think outside the box" regarding my nausea. I've been doing my own research and am wondering if the fluid on my brain (which I was told by neurologist is pushing things from right to left) could be the cause of my severe and chronic nausea. Could this be possible? If so, what should I be doing? Thank you.

My wife takes Zofran 4mg mlt tabs as it gets into the system faster,  She also takes Maxalt MLT which also gets into the system and works faster because the tongue area allows medicine to enter the blood stream fast.  She also was on Topamax for about 10 years but it wasn't helpful.  Her best treatment thus far is EEG Neurofeedback which has reduced the severity and longevity of her migraines from 3 days down to about 6 hours depending on which trigger and its intensity.  It might be much harder to find

If you can avoid within about 15-20 feet of wall warts (used for most rechargeable devices that would be helpful) as would be avoiding microwave ovens especially while they are operating.  One item my wife found helpful was wearing a static strap that you can clip to a metal ground.  My wife uses it in the car and she claims it helps to reduce the pain she feels from pole mounted electrical transformers.  It is clipped to the seat mounting bracket.  Exactly why this helps is hard to determine except that it unitizes her to the car's magnetic field.  There is also a wrist strap that allows more mobility but this is somewhat less effective but helpful to her especially when she is in stores.

I wish I could be more helpful but keep in mind that this is a work in progress.  My fear is that there will be no endpoint in my life time for this project and that is one of the reasons why I haven't tried to obtain a Ph.D in this field so this is why I am doing the studies privately as there is no roadmap for this syndrome.  Please keep in touch and I do monitor three sections of Medhelp so anytime you have a question please feel free to ask.

Eddie,

An electronics free vacation is probably impossible. If, indeed, that is the cause of my nausea. It debilitates me. There are times when I run to the toilet to vomit, and then nothing happens. Quite frustrating.

And I'm glad you like my handle. Schatze is a term of endearment and, yes, it is German. Not sure why we stuck 'bar' on the end of it. But it works. Aren't a lot of folks with that name as an email account name.

What does your wife do for her symptoms? Zantac doesn't touch it anymore. I had some Zofran, but not sure that did much either. Right now I don't have anything (except the Zantac) but will discuss with my local doctor when I go to see him tomorrow. I'm just miserable all the time.

Any suggestions other than getting on an electronics free vacation (which is unlikely) would be appreciated.

Not a medical professional but a Master Degree Engineer and married to a 20 year survivor of a ruptured brain aneurysm survivor who had a successful craniotomy clipping  but six months post operative developed crushing migraines. Fortunately for my wife I was in grad school at the University of Pennsylvania so I was able to take advantage of it's medical school library simultaneously to my degree in micro-electronics engineering.  I never expected my degree to be used for researching (privately) migraine triggers in post surgical craniotomy patients.  Having a spouse suffering from this syndrome gave me unique insights to cause and effect that simply is not available to medical professionals even today.  You might say I am a crusader for this syndrome as there are thousands of survivors similar to you and my wife and unfortunately it is a orphan disease not currently researched by any medical professionals.  Aside from finding best practices that I find first and second hand, I also provide my research to Neuro professionals (surgeons included).  Sadly, many of the professionals woefully unprepared to deal with such patients.  Just thought you might want to know this.

Now, with respect to electronic devices, anything with a plug and off fielding of electromagnetic fields is suspect.  Here is why (and I'm simplyfing here) , as you may know, magnets have attractive or repelling fields and is necessary for the generation of electricity or voltage.  Any metal including those listed as non conductive such as titanium and even platinum have from trace to large amounts of conductive ores.  With even trace amounts of impurities, the human central nervous system is able to detect these trace amounts.  Also because the nervous system is really a electro-chemical messaging system it is still electrons at its most elementary basis.  In the human brain, abnormal messaging in the form of abnormal brain waves cause the brain to "panic" in the absence of some rational sensing organ such as the eyes, ears, nose, taste, etc.  Because the brain operates on electrical fields, it goes into a ort of electrical spasm or spreading depression such as the migraine.  Because you and my wife have foreign substances such as coils and titanium clip in your case and  alloys in my wife's case, the brain has no way of rationalizing these metals in its presence especially when the metal is reacting to outside influences such as electrical fields from devices.  The brain in its panic is trying to rid itself of foreign objects just as it does when a virus or bacterium infects the body.  The brain uses what defenses it has to rid an offender in bid for survival of itself.  In this case you, like my wife, suffer from nausea.  When the offending material is removed the brain will go back into its regular rhythm after a period of time and until it senses another offender.  Schatzebar, believe it or not this is the simple explanation of what is occurring.  Over the last ten years I have been compiling medical data and have studied numerous neurological textbooks and medical libraries as well as research documents to reach conclusions about this syndrome which I have called EMRICH (Electro-Magnetic Induced Cranial Headache).  My alternative name for this is Superman Syndrome whereby Superman is weakened by the fictious mineral kryptonite, cranial clipping survivors are weakened by magnetic material.  It gets more complicated then what I have described above but I'll spare you.  By the way, I like your handle name - my dad called my german born mother Schatze which I believe in German means My Sweetheart.

Oh, BTW, the list of devices you use would be offenders as well as Cell Towers and electrical transformers and power stations to name just a few.  I should also mention that weather also plays a large role in this syndrome but this is proprietary information that I can't reveal as it has the potential for a for profit app.  Hope this information helps you and please let me know how your electronics free vacation has helped you if it is at all possible where you live.

Eddie1994...are you a health care professional? What types of devices are you referring to besides computers? Nooks, e-Readers, cell phones? And why? I do spend a fair amount of time on the computer and read from an e-reader or Nook. Thanks.

The upper left eye area was probably the anterior communicating artery, a common area for aneurysms.  The basilar is also close by and interestingly the brain gadgetry regulating gastrology issues is also located in this area.  I would suggest that you try as best you can to avoid electrical devices because the fields given off during their operation and interact with your cranial hardware.  It is a complicated issue but just try to avoid electrical devices including computer and ancillary devices and see if this helps make a difference.  Let me know if it helps you.

Zofran just covers the symptoms but they come back when Zofran wears off. The coiling was basilar. Not sure what the clip area is called but is upper left close to eye. That's where the over 20 staples were anyway! We are in Ecuador now and our small town doesn't have much in decent medical care. We don't go back to the US until March or April. I just hope I can hold off that long.

An alternative differential diagnosis would be silent migraine.  Numerous brain aneurysm survivors get debilitating migraines.  Also, there is the possibility of the connection between the gut nervous system (more recently called the 2nd brain) as it is connected via the vagus nerve.)  What locations in the brain was coiled and also clipped?  Has your doctor discussed the possibility of taking Zofran or its generic?  This might help for the nausea if a silent migraine is involved.
