It looks like what Dr. Claire Weeks taught me and others in her books. "Losing the fear of it" is the key. Knowing you wont die. "Understanding" what your body is doing to you. Meds are a bandaid. They calm some people down once you on them, but sometimes lose their effect and need to be increased or switched, and if you get off its the same old story all over again.
Of course you need to get checked out to make sure that a physical illness does not cause your anxiety and panic. Most of the time a physical illness is not the case, but if it should be all the "unerstanding" wont cause you to lose the fear. That is why Dr. Weeks urges strongly in her books to get checked out to make sure there is no physical illness causing your anxiety/panic symptoms.
