Antidepressants

Hi there,

I am wondering which antidepressants are safe to take while still breastfeeding?  My baby is 6 months old.  The doctor prescribed Prozac, is this safe.  The reason I won't take Eglonyl or Zoloft is because it is most likely to cause weight gain and I am already overweight and unhappy about it.

Thanks,

Belinda

Doctor's opinions can definitely differ when it comes to prescribing these while breastfeeding in my opinion.  They weigh the risks versus the benefits.  Is the doctor that prescribed them to you your OB or just your GP?  If you haven't talked to your OB about it, why not discuss your concerns with him/her?

I was told to not take any kind of medication while breastfeeding by my Ob/gyn. Anything you take goes into breast milk, even if it's just trace amounts.
