I too get chest pains, pressure and tightness in my throat and chest. I have gone to the ER three times with those symptoms and my heart racing as high as 150 everytime they found nothing, I followed up with a cardiologist who ran many many tests, and still have found nothing, now he thinks maybe it was just panic attacks. I am not on any anxiety meds, I dont like the idea of getting on them. I take kava kava you can get it at the health food store I also use it in tea form it has really seemed to help. Also you can take magnesium that has helped me also. My symptoms come daily, I dont get panic attacks everyday but I have all the other symptoms. I know its hard to believe when they say there isnt anything wrong when you feel the symptoms but if you have seen the doctors then try to believe that it might just be anxiety.
Yeah I know it's 99.8% just my anxiety cause I havn't yet been taken by ambulance for any issues that I think are killing me.
Thankfully I have stopped smoking cold turkey to help prevent any underline isssues I may have and it's also healthy for everyone around me.
It's just Super hard to deal with a Pains or symtoms that you know in your heart isnt real, But your body and mind are telling you otherwise.
Sorry you are dealing with such anxiety...but just from reading your post....I think you KNOW deep down that your symptoms ARE indeed anxiety. Problem is...convincing your brain of that...b/c of course, while your symptoms are not harmful, and while you've gotten a clean bill of health....they still scare the living daylights out of you. The worst thing with anxiety symptoms is they are SO very real, and unfortunately, most mimic something very bad, like a heart attack, or a stroke...symptoms that every blasted poster tells you to call 911 for. So, what do we do? You've had all of the right tests...and anyone who experiences these symptoms SHOULD get checked out the 1st time to rule out a physical cause. You've done all that. Time to address the anxiety. You mentioned meds. One thing I can tell you for sure is that if you weren't taking the Klonopin at least 2x day regularly, it wouldn't have worked like it should.
If your meds weren't Rx'ed by a psychiatrist, then you should consider asking your PCP for a referral. They are truly the best docs to prescribe those kinds of meds. Also, have you ever tried an antidepressant? Many people with anxiety have had a lot of success with AD's (myself included). It is always a personal choice...but it is something to think about. How anout therapy? have you tried therapy at all?
Lastly, the Norco you are taking may be part of the culprit here. It may not be the direct cause, but it could very well be attributing to the anxiety. How long have you been on it? As you probably know...all narcotics have an issue with tolerance..where your body needs a higher and higher dose to obtain the same effect. Sometimes, when a person's tolerance has increased, and the dose isn't increased, a person can experience anxiety as a result. Something to look into anyway. While you have the back issues, you may want to consider finding alternative treatments rather than long-term narcotics. You will always be fighting the tolerance issues, not to mention the physical dependence problems that come with them as well.
Let us know how you're doing...we're here to help!
Think it is time to take med for anxiety. As nursegirl pointed out you aren't getting any help from what you are currently on.
I do take Klonopin, and have for years. Before that a low dose of Xanax. If I could tolerate ADs believe me I would be taking one. There is the dependency issue, altho', as my life has settled down, it doesn't seem to be a problem for me..
After anal cancer and treatment, my body rejects ADs. It didn't when I was younger. So, in my case, a serious illness combined with an aging system (I'm 74) make it impossible to try various treatment plans. Well, I have tried, but with disasterous results.
Talk therapy works, but generally it works best if you are on a base medication for the panic.
Sorry the doctor in ER caused you more anxiety about CTscans etc.
Keep talking to us.
Best,
Ann
i've had the exact same problems for about 3 months now, Although i've only been to the E.R once, i've been to my G.P several times for reassurance.
i suggest looking into "The Linden Method" i've heard nothing but good things about it and i tried one of the relaxation tapes that comes with it and it works, so im thinking about purchasing it myself.
Good Luck with your problem.
thanks everyone. I am reading these.
Right now I'm relaxing because I just got done snowblowing and feel dizzy and lightheaded. But I'm sure thats what u get when its 10 degrees outside and you dont really work out much.
