Anxiety and Celexa

Hi, does anyone out there take klonopin along with their antidepressant?  My doctor has advised me to use the klonopin until the anti. kicks in.  I have been on 20mg of celexa now for a week and he would like me to go up to 30mg soon.  Does anyone know how long it takes for this stuff to kick in, I'm just wondering if I should hold off with upping to 30mg for awhile and see if the 20 mg is enough.  I hate feeling ansie all the time, and the klonopin does seem to help with that, but isn't it pretty addictive?  My dr. said not to worry about that and when I started feeling better we would wean off of the klonopin?  Does this make sense to anyone.  I have trying to find the right anti. for almost 6 months and I am so tired of feeling like this!!!!  does celexa help with anxiety?

Klonopin is VERY addictive. Make sure you get off as soon as you are able. Don't go cold turkey.Make sure they brig you off in small amounts. The pill is small but powerful!  Good luck and God bless.

I  have taken Celexa 20mg with Klonopin with excellent results.  Normally your doctor wants to wait 4-6 weeks to see if the 20 mg does the job for you, and if not he will increase the dosage.  This is how long it takes for the Celexa or any anti-depressant to reach therapeutic level. You will be able to wean off the Klonopin, once your anti-depressant starts working, but I continued on both, and still take the Klonopin with Citolopram.  Every person reacts differently to these types of medications, and it is often trial and error as to what will work best for you.  I do hope your meds are being prescribed by a psychiatrist and not your GP.  Psychs are more knowlegeable with the medications. I don't understand why your doctor wants to automatically up your dosage without first seeing if the 20mg works for you?  But it is common to be on these two types of drugs at one time.  I would definitely give the 20mg at least 4-6 weeks, and take the Klonopin as prescribed and see how you do before upping the Celexa.  If you haven't been working with a psych doc then I would switch to one.  I would also ask your doctor "why" he wants you to up the dosage so quickly before giving it time to work.  Celaxa is an excellent drug, but what works for one, may not another.  I know it's frustrating and you are correct in questioning this, and it may be time to switch doctors.  Be patient with the Celexa, and don't worry so much about the Klonopin, you have to do whatever it takes to get your life back.  Many drugs are addictive and this is why we wean off under the care of our doctors, so as not to experience the withdrawal.  You have to view anxiety as any other condition, if you were told you had diabetes you would take the medications, anxiety is no different.  There are lots of horror stories about these medications, but compared to the millions taking them, they are few.  I think you will feel much better, try not to worry so much and take care.
