The advice you have been given is sound. I am reminded of a friend of mine who complained that her son wasn't growing. I asked her how she knew. She said she measured him every month. I said, "Stop measuring him." She wanted the number of my pediatrician (who had a very fine reputation). She brought her son to him and came back, mad at me. She said he was worthless. He apparently told her to stop measuring him.
I second what Nurse A advises. Often times just the simple act of taking your BP will make it go up due to anxiety. Of course, if you haven't already, it is always a good idea to have a once over by your doc to rule out any common medical causes for your anxiety symptoms and BP. I would also ask your doc about perhaps trying a beta blocker, which are sometimes Rx'ed for anxiety....they also help to reduce your BP and pulse, which can be helpful when you are experiencing these kinds of anxiety symptoms (high BP/pulse).
Hang in there and let us know how you're doing!!!
This is a normal part of anxiety, however i would encourage you to stop taking your blood pressure when anxious as this can increase your anxiety. You will find that a vicious cycle will develop, if it hasnt already, of when feeling anxious you take your blood pressure, you see it increases which makes you more anxious.
I think it would be a very good idea for you to learn some relaxation exercises, breathing exercises and maybe to invest in some meditation cd's to help control your anxiety. Also a gentle amount of exercise each day will both help in keeping your blood pressure low and also will help to release the 'feel good' hormones which will help to releave anxiety and depression.
