I sure hope you haven't been in the bathroom all this time! LOL
Didn't think I'd hear from you, but I'm glad you wrote back. I'm also glad you talked with your doctor and he seems to agree the main problem is stress/anxiety.

Our brains are incredibly powerful. They can make us believe just about anything. They also control many of our autonomic (out of our control) responses. Like when you start thinking about getting high, scoring, etc, your brain reacts to the anxiety this makes you feel and it dumps chemicals and hormones into our system without our permission. One in particular is adrenaline, also known as the "fight or flight" hormone. It's the hormone that floods our system when we feel we are in danger and need to get pumped up to either fight the danger or flee from it. Often, for many of us, this sudden overload of adrenalin not only enables us to fight better, run faster and jump higher, it also makes us want to poop RIGHT NOW. I think it's a sort of side effect from all the stuff it makes our body do when it hits our system. Our blood is "pulled" inside to give extra strength to our vital organs like our heart and lungs and muscles. It increases the amount of oxygen in our blood, it increases our heart rate............and I believe it can make our bodies want to get rid of any excess baggage that may slow us down. That would include poop. It's why some people throw up.
Going through drug rehab is terrible hard, your brain is going through hell trying to relearn how to function without the drug, your anxiety level goes through the roof as does your stress level, there is bound to be some depression brougt on by this ordeal............all of that combined could cause your GI tract to malfunction, but then you add a hefty dose of adrenalin to that stew and something's gotta give. We know what it is for you, because it's the same for many of us.
Are they giving you anything to help with the anxiety or depression? Are you being given therapy? I know that some rehabs won't let you take anything stronger than a Tylenol.
If this happens only when you are freaking out, while it's unpleasant, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Just drink lots of water to prevent dehydration. If this begins happening all the time, not just when you're in panic mode, then you need to see a doctor for more than your nerves. I'm going to suggest something that may sound really stupid, but I'd like you to begin keeping a poop journal. I don't think MH has a Poop Tracker yet. But every time you have a bowel movement, describe how you felt just before you knew you had to go. Describe the poop and you don't have to get really detailed here, just write something simple like "soft but formed," "solid and formed," "loose and/or diarrhea." You get the idea. Just make this a quick entry, you don't have to write a novel, but try to write in it every day, even if you happen to not have a BM. Make note of THAT.
Guess what I'm saying is that I don't think what you're going through is abnormal under the circumstances. I do think it's important that you begin keeping track of it though.
Are you doing in-patient treatment? If so, how much longer do you anticipate being there?
I admire your courage and determination, Bonny. I know how strong you have to be to GET clean and STAY clean.
Something in your post says to me you're gonna make it.
Don't wait another three months to update me, OK?
Peace

Hey and thanks for ur response it actually does make sense what you say, Ive had a word with my doctor and been told the reason this herpes to me is because of anxiety as im in drug treatment at the moment and really trying to stay clean so because this means so much to me, when i think about scoring or something triggers me i go into instant anxiety ie heart beating fast and me wanting to go to the toilet i still don't understand how ur brain can instantly make you feel anxious just by ur own thoughts its a strange 1 is that but thanks so much for your comment :-)

I love talking about poop.
Stress, anxiety, anger, frustration, fear, et al can throw many of our systems out of whack and that's what this sounds like to me. During times of stress we don't always eat right, or we eat too fast, or we eat junk, which then lands in our stomachs which are probably already messed up from too much acid from too much stress and the food isn't digested correctly, it doesn't enter our lower intestines the way it should, in neat orderly sequences. Then you start thinking about one of these issues that is obviously driving you starkers, causing mild anxiety attacks which dump adrenaline into our systems and for some scientifically unknown reason, the part of our brain that controls poop suddenly decides that NOW is the time to jettison any excess "baggage." There probably is a medical term for this phenomenom.........."Poop Panic," "EPE," (Emergency Poop Evacuation) "Sudden Stool Syndrome," "Fast-forward Fecal Failure."

I'm not making fun of you or your distress, Bonny. But what is happening to you is quite common for a great many of us. I'm sure it's just a nervous reaction to the stress your under. You don't say how long this has been going on, but if it's been much longer than about 2 weeks, I'd suggest talking with your doctor. This could be a mild bacterial infection or somehow the "flaura and fauna" in your digestive system is out of balance.

Check your diet. Drink LOTS of water. Eat fiber rich foods. Avoid dairy for awhile with the exception of yogurt. Cut down on caffeinated beverages. Spicy foods. Give your gut a rest while you work this stuff out, but DO eat. Maybe follow the RICE diet for a couple days...........

I hope you'll let us know how you're doing, perhaps your response will help someone else who is going through the same thing.
Take care
Peace
