Back in 2005, I passed out one morning before school. I had just taken a shower, but even during the shower I felt incredibly weak, dizzy, lightheaded.. just not myself. I fell getting out of the shower and probably passed out then to. By the time I got to my room I fell again, and by the time I came to, I still had no idea what was going on. I figured I was just really tired. I finally got to my door to ask my mom if I could go in late to school, and I slid right down the side of my door from passing out. I was out for a good minute. I could hear everything going on but just could not "wake up". By the time I came to, my heart was pounding and I felt so out of it. After weeks and weeks of tests, I found out inadvertently that I had mono, and it was in the end stages. At the time, the ER doc said my fainting episode was just a syncope that happens to teenagers randomly. Since then, I found out I do have a slight arrhythmia, although it is not life threatening. I also have bouts of tachycardia when I take naps sometimes. Does this happen to anybody else? My blood work is normal and other than the tachy, I'm healthy. Any ideas?? I think it might just be anxiety and severe stress.
Thanks,
Becca
I'm not sure about Mono triggering anxiety, but I do know that virus such as Mono in many cases can cause POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia SYndrome). This basically means that you have an increased heart rate when going from a lying to a standing position with or without a drop in blood pressure. The dizziness could be from low blood pressure. Have you had that checked? Have you ever fainted from being dizzy or lightheaded?
for more info on POTS check out dinet.org. Low blood pressure that leads to fainting is called Vasovagal Syncope. (you can Google to find out more)
