I am currently taking 20 mg of Citalopram also.
I experienced the EXACT same symptons for the first few weeks. Decreased appetite, insomnia, fatigue, headache
Just stick with it....
After a few weeks it will all go AWAY!
Your body has to have time to adjust, you are taking a medication that affects your brain. It takes time for your body to get used to the medicine.
I promise after you get used to the medicine you will feel much better and be so glad you toughed it out. I didn't think I would make it through at first, I even lost weight because of the decreased appetite! It's ok it will all go away. My main problem at first was the insomnia. It all goes away soon.
Good luck :)
hi i am on this now, have been for about 6 months im on 20 mg a day, i had the same symtoms it would probably take about 4 to 5 weeks untill you feel totally fine after then i feel alot better than when i wasnt on them now. u just need to ride it out
Hi
I've been on Citalopram for over 6 weeks now and for the first few days I had exactly the side-effects you have described. I started feeling ill within a few hours of taking my first 20mg tablet. I had nausea and a dry mouth, then the following day I had a severe migraine-type headache. After a week the side-effects had lessened and within a few weeks I had started to feel the benefit of them.
My advice would be to stick with them until you go back to see your doctor and then discuss it with them.
Hope this helps
I'm not familiar with citalopram. But I understand what you're going through. I was prescribed several medications that made me very ill in a matter of days. I emptied the bottles straight into the toilet.
I can understand undergoing horrible (but temporary) side-effects in a life-saving situation... such as chemotherapy. But I cannot understand how so many psychiatric medications can have severe and devastating symptoms on so many. It was after my last three medications went horribly wrong that I finally sat down and had a long and hard conversation with myself about what I was doing. I decided I had a much better quality of life before any of these drugs.
I can deal with a bit of anxiety or depression if that's what life has dealt to me. I refuse to deal with horrendous side effects from medications that are supposed to make me feel better.
Good luck!

I've never taken it, though I had increased anxiety on Paxil and just stopped it. The increased anxiety was not worth it. The first time I took it, it made me feel great, but I had to stop due to a medical problem. The second time I tried it, it made me feel terrible. It wasn't worth it for me. It's just my opinion, and I'm not a medical professional, but for anxiety, I'd ask for a benzodiazepine instead. Good luck.
Has anyone else taken this??
