Could symptoms be anxiety?

I am a 35 yo male. I made a terrible mistake 2 months ago and had unprotected sex with someone who I know nothing about.  I have been extremely worried about contracting an STI and have regretted my actions ever since.  I have been tested for all STD/STIs with all negative results. However, ever since a week or so after, I've had recurring and chronic urethritis & prostasis-like symptoms  -- mild but persistent.

The Dr. perscribed two different antibiotics for this which helped temporarily but now the symptoms are back! He told me that if they didn't work is likely due to the extreme stress, guilt, and anxiety.

Is it possible that these symptoms are strictly anxiety related?
If so, are there any techniques / medications that would help?
Should I begin to see a therapist?

I'm not usually a very worried person (does hypochondriac count?), but I'm at my wit's end!  I would love some advice here.

Hey ive been there and often ive had anxiety sense I was 9 and i have a few ideas for one if you are dont feel like your dr. Is giveing you the advice you need or just want to be sure I would suggest a second opinion never hurts. As for the anxiety this is what helps me best is to keep busy by reading or working on projects around the house or even listening to music if it gets super bad then if im home i lay or sit down turn on music that puts me in a good mood and do breathing exercises which can be done anywhere i take deep breaths in through my mouth slowly and nreath out of my nose slowly the goal is to slow down your breathing which also slows down your heart rate tell im calm and the feelings have past. When your haveing anxiety your heart rate goes up as with stress they go hand in hand

Sounds like you have anxiety all right.  But it seems you have taken all reasonable steps to protect yourself, save the encounter mistake.  If you can convince yourself of this and trust your doctor the anxiety should subside.

My experience with anxiety is my wife's and I can tell you some of the drugs and treatments cost so much that alone can make someone anxious.  I don't see an great benefit either unless you consider being in a mental haze much of the time..
