Thank you both so much! I've been seeing a GI doctor for almost a year now and we've been attempting to figure out why I feel sick so much. We're starting to suspect if it's anxiety related. I already have been diagnosed with IBS, GERD and Gastritis but those are under control and there's no other apparent health concerns. Our next step is looking at if this is the cause---because it all started after I got pregnant.
When I was pregnant with my daughter I was diagnosed with Hyperemesis and I couldn't eat but maybe once a day or every other day. I was told once I gave birth it would get better, so I kept looking forward to that. This didn't happen though--I would still get sick when I ate, and it especially got worse at night. EGD found my problem and gradually it started to get a little better, but not completely and I'm were I am now. For the past 2-3 weeks I've felt wonderful, but due to stress (I'm having a lot of family issues right now) the last two days or so my belly has been a mess, as well as nauseated. We're also looking into it being caused from depression, which I already know I have.
My current problems are these---
Nausea
Fatigue (no matter how much or little I sleep--usually I get 10 hours a night)
Little appetite, though it is VERY slowly increasing
Weight loss and now the inability to gain. It's been holding steady at 100 pounds
Insomnia-it's hard for me to fall asleep and when I do I sleep for hours
Back aches, especially in-between my shoulders
And then just the utter listlessness in everything. I want to be out, but I don't want to get out at the same time. When I start to pick up something to do I lose interest in it almost immediately.
Anxiety can definitely cause a myriad of physical symptoms in m opinion. When I am stressed, my stomach is often tied in knots and I can get really bad tension headaches. It can definitely make me feel run down mentally and physically. I believe that is one reason that anxiety can be so hard to confront. We constantly feel like used dish towel and when someone is worn out it can be that much harder to dig our way out in my experience with this. Have you been going through this for awhile now? For me, the most important step I took was to seek counseling to learn about the anxiety and why I was experiencing it. It also gave me the knowledge and the tools to confront it...ask as many questions as you like!
Hello Clysta, Yes anxiety sure can cause stomach problems and nausea. I get heartburn and feel nauseated all the time from anxiety and panic attacks! I have to take Reglan for my stomach and and anti nausea medication for the nausea. I also take klonopin and a beta blocker for the anxiety and panic. I hope that you are feeling okay!
