Dilemma!

I was prescribed Xanax AND Klonopin by a psychiatrist. Does this sound right??  This sounds naive, but it seems odd to be given both.  I've taken both separately but not at the same time.

I did for awhile, but the xanax was PRN.

Bear in mind that this is just my opinion, but it doesn't sound "right" to me either. I could understand if he put you on Klonopin for long term control of anxiety/panic and had you use the Xanax strictly on a PRN, (as needed) basis as a "rescue" med if you had a major breakthrough panic attack. But to be on both at the same time seems like over medicating to me.
Did he explain his rational for prescribing both meds to you? I'd be interested to hear what he had to say..........and if he was MY p-doc, I"d definitely be asking him!
Your question was anything BUT naive! It was, in fact, very perceptive of you to question this.
A discussion with him is definitely in order and again, if this were me, if he persisted in prerscribing both, I would seek out a second opinion ASAP.
I wish you the best.
Peace
Greenlydia
