Extreme Anxiety on Wellbutrin

by ProdigalGirl, Feb 01, 2009 10:33PM
Does anyone have any first hand experiences with Wellbutrin? I have had really really bad anxiety on this medication. However, I had very severe depression that was relieved by only  this medication.  I have tried other SSRI's and they don't work. I am guessing that since Wellbutrin attaches to the dopamine receptor, this is what I was lacking. Anyhoo, only Ativan will relieve this anxiety. I worry from the time my eyes open until they close (when I get sleep).

Does anyone feel this is related to Wellbutrin or maybe my personality? I am bouncing back from a kick me down battle that I have brushed off the dirt from and feel better. When will this anxiety go away? I don't want to alienate myself from family and friends like I have done in the past. Any helpfulthoughts would be greatly appreciated.

From what I know about Wellbutrin it really does'nt help with anxiety. You might want to ask your Dr. about adding an antianxiety med like klonopin. Take care. Remar

I agree with JayJay...staying in close consultation with your doctor is a very good way to go in my book, if you have been working with him/her for awhile and have a good relationship.  As you know medications can really be trial and error but you seem like you are very proactive in your treatment which is a very helpful in my opinion...keep us posted!

My experience with Wellbutrin was like yours, it was great for my depression but totally aggravated my anxiety. I ended up going on Xanax with it to take the edge off because i already had Generalized Anxiety Disorder to begin with. I can see how only the Ativan would help you, Wellbutrin kind of made my hair stand on end! Keep your Dr. informed about how you are feeling and hopefully he can help you out. Good luck with everything!
