Freaking out/ serious panic

I am having my thyroid removed in 3 days due to extreme complications in the last year.  I am freaking out.  I wish I knew how to handle this better.  I am hyperthyroid at the moment too which makes me even more nervous.  I hate this feeling of panic and anxiety.  I panic over little things when I'm hyperthyroid, much less over something this major.  How do I handle this??? =(

I wish I had some magic words to make you feel better.  :0(

I'm sorry you are going through this.  Just think of how much the thyroid goiter is causing and worsening your anxiety...and how much better you will feel once that is corrected!  I know it's not an easy road...but you WILL feel better after you're all healed.

Also, it's only normal to be anxious about the surgery itself!  If you were NOT nervous, I would be worried about you.  Discuss how you're feeling with your doctor and ASK for anti-anxiety meds to help get you through this.  I know you were taking something before (Xanax?)....it's okay to need help during this rough time.  Also, ask to be premedicated with an anxiety med in the pre-op holding area.  They can do that and it will make you feel much better.  Your surgeon (and/or Endo) certainly understands the nature of this beast and how your hyperthyroidism will cause tremendous anxiety.

Please be sure to post updates and let us know how you're feeling.  I wish you the best..prayers for a successful surgery, quick recovery and relief from your anxiety!!

Hugs!

surgery is going to make you anxious.  It is okay to be anxious about surgery, and I would suggest to do anything to try to make yourself feel better.  It sounds like the conditon itself makes you anxious.  Try to think about how much better you should feel in the long run after the surgery.

I hope all goes well with your surgery and keep trying to calm yourself anyway that works for you.

Sadly there's no easy way to deal with the anxiety that comes with hyper and surgery...

Try to force yourself to calm down, force yourself to have long deep breaths...5 seconds in and 5 seconds out.  Have you tried calm, soothing, meditation music? Not that it physically does anything for the hyper but might calm your mind a little??
