Find a psychiatrist and tell him that your doctor retired and you have an enormous amount of anxiety and panics attacts through the roof (this is the truth of course). Don't tell him that you need to tapper or that you are even addicted. (Doctor's are afraid of a xanax addict...go figure!) Be sure to tell him that you previously took 6mg of xanax a day. What you should do is get xanax and switch to klonopin soon after to do a cross over. A doctor shouldn't have a problem changing you over to klonopin later.
This will get you started then you can find out how to do a crossover to klonopin so you can tapper more easily.

I am sorry that the doctors are not helping you...that really is uncalled for in my opinion, but have you tried another resource, like your pharmacists where you get your prescriptions filled? As an added bonus, it is free advice and they are knowledgeable about medications...or at least they should be!!
My mantra has always been, "the slower the better." Our bodies tend to build up a tolerance to these meds and it can be a pain in the butt to come off it sometimes...just let us know how it goes.
