It could well be anxiety but I would suggest going to your doctor and talking to him about it. I was having the same problem a couple of months ago and they put me on a 24 hour monitor and did an echocardiogram. The holter monitor showed I was having PVCs, which is felt as a skipped beat and a large thump usually. No big deal in a normal heart. My echo was fine, so I was able to stop thinking I was about to drop dead any minute. It helped a lot.
As to why it happens when you are trying to sleep, I haven't a clue, but it seems to happen to lots of people. My cardiologist said when you are lying down you are more aware of what your heart is doing. You feel it skip a beat and you get nervous about it, which causes more skips. It's a vicous circle. When mine was doing that I would prop myself up some on a couple of pillows and that would usually calm things down enough to go to sleep.
Hey hon. I have felt both of these things. I even began to worry that something was wrong with my heart. Then I decided to go to a doctor to get checked out and everything was fine with my heart I just had extremely high blood pressure. My doctor then put me on 1mg of klonopin and it took away my heart palpitations completely! I don't believe that medication is for everyone but maybe it's something you should look into. After I started taking this medication along with lunesta it was a god send. I was actually able to leave my house and do things for once. I don't suggest going straight to medications unless you have already tried all the natural remedies that have helped so many people. Just something as simple as a cup of chamomile tea helps a lot of people calm down.
Let us know how you start to feel! I know that anxiety can be so debilitating for some people. Including myself.
Have a great one!
I get the same way I feel like I am going to suffocate and then I get hot and my heart starts beating rapidly. It scares me every time. I wish we could all get answers as to why anxiety can affect the body like this.
It just worries me that it really only happens when I am trying to sleep, I get too scared to sleep having thoughts like my heart is going to stop while I am sleeping or I am going to have a heart attack while sleeping
Yes I've battled with having heart palpitations with anxiety especially while driving and when i would go into public i would feel weak and try taking deep breaths because it felt like i couldn't get enough oxygen anxiety can cause so many symptoms its unreal
i have the same issues, i have had this for some 35 years. everything always normal. sometimes we just have to live with it. as bad as it scares u, always does me......usualy onset of nerves can make it worse, even when u dont think its that.
It feels like my heart skips beats and then the next beat is really strong, to the point I think I'm having a heart attack. Previously when this happened I went to the ER and they gave me an ekg and ran blood tests and everything came back normal.
Yes I used to have them all day to the point where it made me very dizzy I really thought I was going to faint saw my Dr and he gave me beat a blockers these helped no end I still get it but it's no where as bad
Yes and yes.
Explain what kind of palpitations you feel, what happens?
