Help buspar question

by gia53, Mar 10, 2009 12:06PM
If anyone is reading this I need a  a few questions answered quickly as my Dr's app is tomorrow.

I have been having very bad anxiety attacks for two years that send me to the the ER to many times from thinking I was having a heart attack.

My Dr first but me on clonazepam for these attacks and they seemed to stop working then it put me on XANAX 0.5 three times daily.

But the anxiety attacks just keep getting worse because I am going through some major life changes that are not pleasant.

I ended back up at the ER because I had a panic attack that lasted off and on for three days even with my meds the ER  did a EKG blood work, plus a chest X-RAY. All seemed fine.

The ER Dr, put me on 1 mg Xanax and suggested my for my DR do the same because the attacks were so bad. This helped me so much but when I told my Dr

he wants to to just take me of the xanax and replace it with buspar that can take weeks to work.

I am very scared.. I do not abuse my xanax take only as directed but do take a extra half of one when a bad attack hits.

It this a safe way  to get off Xanax it sounds scary to me?

I am all for anything that will help but do not want to suffer these bad attacks while waiting for the Buspar to work. I just really don't think I could survive them as they make my heart race, blood pressure go up, can't breath and feel like am just losing it.

Please help:)

not sure about buspar.....but i was prescribed celexa AND xanax for a 'rescue' drug.  Obviously, the intent is to start using the buspar so you will no longer need the xanax which is addictive.

For me, I had to take a 1/2 of xanax or so a day (along with the celexa) for the 1st 2 weeks when my anxiety built up.  I haven't felt the need to take a xanax in quite a while so the celexa is working.

I think you'll probablly take the buspar daily....and have a few xanax as needed until your anxiety is under control.

Hope this helps.

I hope he does something I am so tired of these attacks if someone had of told me I would have to have drugs for aniexty attacks two years ago, I would have laughed at them..
I can't take anti depressions they make me feel really awful so my options are so limited.

My main worry is from what I have read the buspar takes so long to get into your system and I don't want to suffer withdrawels from the xanax not to mention the panic attacks.
Thanks for trying to help..
