Hi All

I have had anxiety issues as far back as I can remember. Right now I am going through somewhat of a health scare and so my anxiety is through the roof. I can hardly work or sleep and eating? I have lost 10+ LBS in a week and a half if that says anything. I went to a doctor and received Xanex but all that does is makes my sleepy. It doesn't calm the thoughts or sense of dread.

My appetite has slowly begun to return but this situation (which I can't go into right now) is going to go on at least two more months. I went to a psychiatrist yesterday an meds are a possibility but I would love to avoid them if possible.

I just want to enjoy my life again...

Thanx for the advice - I meet with my new therapist on Thursday. I am sure he and I will discuss meds at one point or another so I will keep this in mind. I hate my brain sometimes... *sigh

I am sorry to hear that you are having such a rough time!  I have (major) anxiety issues also.  I have to take meds daily to control it.  Not everyone does tho.  Maybe meds to keep you calm and focused for the short term would be okay... ask your doctor about Ativan.  This is a benzodiazepine that works wonderfully for short-term or as needed use.  How ever, these types of drugs ARE addictive, so if you choose this, remember that you will have to 'wean off' at some point.  I have weaned off of ativan before, and the withdrawals are tolerable as long as you taper as your doctor says.  Hope this helps - Blu
