Mystruggle is right! (and sounds an awful lot like Lucinda Bassett)
3 1/2 months ago I was having panic attacks every day, more than once per day. It was awful!!! After doing exactly what mystruggle is advocating, I have not had a panic attack in about 1 month and have not taken any benzos in just as long. Yes I still have anxiety on a daily basis but it is very manageable because I have the tools now, and I seem to be able to keep it from turning into a full blown attack now.
There are a great many books out there that will show you how to do this and I HIGHLY recommend getting one. Even just picking the book up and reading a few pages is enough to get my centered and past the panicky feelings. Right now I am using a panic attack workbook which for me is a lot more helpful than a just reading a book because I feel more proactive in my therapy.
Good luck! Until you take an active role in heeling yourself it will not get any better.
hiya hun i think the posting off FJOHNONE is perfect now start believin it and live your life xx
Lets see now...you went out with you friends which, given you anxiety, was a death-defying experience that you survived. Lets see now...you probably fooled your friends who had no idea that you were going to die very soon. What you did was show anxiety who is the boss. When it really comes down to it, you prevail. One more thing, did you realize that everytime you prevail, you get stronger and more confident. Some of us old-time anxiety folks, have had every single thing re anxiety happen to them. No surprises. Anxiety just picked the wrong people. So, go out today and fool somebody!
mystruggle hit the nail on the head. It is very scary and it is very hard to believe that there is nothing physically wrong with you. You have to desensitize yourself and realize that these attacks and feelings of doom are all part of anxiety. When you educate yourself on what anxiety and/or depression (which go hand and hand many times) is and practice and use the techniques that can help, you WILL get better. Don't expect it to go away overnight...but also remember than it will not hurt you.
it will go away when you change your negative thinking, to postive thinking that is the truth. when you make it through some panic attacks using calming techniques. when you find a med that works for you (this is your choice). and when you are no longer scared of panic attacks. that's the cure. easier said then done, but can be done with practice. CBT works. it really does. very large percentage of people that do a 16 week cbt therapy are panic free or on their way to recovery by treatments end. you need the right tools to use. right now it seems you are just going out and hoping it away. it does take some work. you can do it. millions have!!!
