I think Xanax is a "depressant"......it is used for anxiety....but often, from what I've been told, anxiety and depression go hand in hand.    Maybe the Xanax is something you should not be on.    I take Effexor for my depression and I take Buspar (buspirone) for my anxiety.  Actually the buspar seems like it helps the effexor to work better.  Ask you doctor if I'm right about Xanax being a depressant.  So is alcohol....and opiates....they are both depressants.   It's hard for me, because I have pain and have to take opiates, but I'm careful with them...so I don't get addicted.
Good luck.

stick with it coming of ativan is hard and should always be done slowly, but you have been of it for 3weeks, but I agree with cj talk to your doctor and tell him just how your feeling.
good luck

Sometimes switching back and forth between medications can cause physical symptoms but it is also can be exacerbated because of how we feel.  I would go back and talk to your doctor about your concerns.

Just ensure while you are doing this that you do not do it on your own; keep on working with your doctor on this. Also, are currently talking about this with a therapist?  This is the most important thing you should do in my opinion...hang in there because it will get much better.  Keep us posted!
