Have you thrown this question out to the thyroid community? I am on over there, and this is a very common problem with thyroid patients.
We love to help people with all these things that the dr just dismisses, but we KNOW is thyroid related.
Yes I do see an Endo but to him nothing is thyroid related..UGH.. .I have a really good Primary care doc we have tried Effexor, Wellbultrin and some other things but I got REALLY depressed on those I couldnt eat, stayed nauseated it was horrible.
My last levels were good thyroid wise I am on 200mcg of synthroid, but it has been 6 months since my last visit I go in September for another check up.
I also have a B12 deficiency but I do take shots for so I am taking care of that.
My blood sugar I keep in check but sometimes I will be at my WORSE and my sugars are fine.
The last time I had a night episode when I wake out of a SOUND SLEEP..I did take my BP and it was high but I think it was because I was scared, also checked my sugar and it was fine.
I have had CT's, MRI's, EKG all of that, I have been to the ER numerous times .....WHY cant I just say OK it is anxiety and this will pass, but I dont I hit panic mode and think I am dying and get depressed.
I have seen a therapist..one watching the tv behind me and told me to hold on while he recorded a radio show.....yes the tv and radio were on and he chain smoked the WHOLE time.
THe other therapist (anxiety one at that) just gave me HEAVY medication...my primary care doc throwed a fit and took me off of it and shes been trying to help me.
THANKS for talking to me about all this...
Dana
Also, if you have low blood sugar, which I get sometimes, I get REALLY shaky and lightheaded and feel like I'm going to pass out! I also get really sweaty too! That could mimic anxiety easily!
Eat right, keep your sugar levels good. =)
Take a deep breath, and relax. You've came to a great forum! We all can relate to your story in some way or another.
Sounds to me you are having some major symptoms of anxiety due to your thyroid issue. I'm sure the doctor has told you anxiety is a VERY common problem with thyroid troubles.
Are they treating you for your thyroid? If so, is it not working? Have you seen the Dr. for other options? I understand Xanax is not good, I recommend not taking it either if you don't have to.
Have you tried any other anti depressants? How long did you try them for?
Have you seen a therapist?
The sweaty palms, the racing heart in the middle of the night, the nervousness for nothing are all signs of anxiety, for sure.
I'd suggest another check up with your Dr. to see other options. Therapy might be a good option too.
I wish you the best of luck, and I think you are going to be just fine in the long run. =)
Let me ask you this... are there times when you do feel good? Then times where you don't feel good? If so, then just remember, "this too will pass... and I will not feel like this forever!"
Good luck! If you have any questions just ask!
I suffer from severe anxiety too! =)
My first question is...are you levels properly maintained? How about your blood sugar? What do you do to treat that? Are you eating properly?
I'm sure a HUGE component of these symptoms is anxiety, but you definitely need to rule out the other things first...as symtpoms as a result of those issues mimic anxiety.
Do you see an endocrinologist regularly?
