Klonapin/Lorazapam

Hi, does anyone know how Klonapin differs from Lorazapam?  I am currently taking Lorazapam as needed for anxiety, but my mom told me I should ask my dr. about Klonapin.  I see they are in the same family of drugs.  Would that mean they are similar?  Thanks in advance!

Yes this is safe for an animal.  I workled for years at a wildlife refuge and most things that humans can have, animals can too....of course the trick is the ones that they can't have for certain reasons can be very dangerous....so you always want to check.  My dog for instance can take tramadol for pain (once perscribed by his vet), which just so happens to be what I take for back pain so it's conveniant to have some human meds around for emergencies.

Here's a web-site that discussed klonopin usages for dogs, it is a met perscribed by vets but of course you always want to run it by your vet and I guess with anything you take a risk.  This web-site also has dosage information.  My dog is 120 lbs. which is about the same size as me so my vet has authorized him to take human doses, usually whatever the dos on the bottle or my does, he can take.  For smaller dogs human doses can be dangerous.  You have to be knowledgeable and careful but if you want to be proactive in your animals life it is good to know that animals can take many human things, however your decisions should eb combatted with knowledge...and research, real research not just the opinions found ehre by random people.  Check out this web-site for more info on this specific drug for animals.

I also take half of the tablet like you said.  I have taken the whole pill and it does tend to make me a little drowsy, but that is a side affect of calming my nerves.  Klonopin also works for me, but for immediate short term relief the Lorazapam worked for me very well.  I am also on an SSRI, Sertraline (Zoloft), which I have been on about 5-6 weeks now which along with talking it out with a professional has really helped.

When you take the lorazapam a whole tablet of the 05mg does it make you sleepy.  I thought about trying a whole one but, I would have to do it at night to see how sleepy I get.  How did the klonoping make you feel?  Thanks for your input.  Anything is really helpful to me.  I never used to be like this.  I find also I hate being alone.  I had that when my first husband died.  It comes and goes.  But, I never used to be this panicky. by abby123411

Before making any changes to your medication, I always suggest talking it over with your doctor.  I take Zoloft and Lorazapam (1 x .5mg pill a day).  Lorazapam is a shorter acting benzo than Klonopin (I have taken that too).  I find both helpful, but it affects people in different ways.  You are also doing the right thing by talking through these issues with somebody.  Anxiety can be hard to cope with, but it seems to me that you are on the right track.

I am takin effexsor at night 75mg.  I also take a 1/2 of lorazapam in the am and usually about 6 hours later I need  more.  I have been feeling alot of anxiety lately alot going on.  Husband had surgery, work problems, if I take a whole one I get sleepy . Sometimes I think I should take a whole one but, I know it will make me so tired.  I read about the klonipan do you thing that would be ok for me.  I seem to be having alot more anxiety then usual.Or is it better to ask the doctor to go up on the effexsor.  I have glaucoma and take drops for that.  Please help me I am what you call a worrier and I am talking to someone to try to help me control that.  How long does it take for the lorazapam to start working when you take it say at 7am.  Need some answers asap.  Thank You,

Everyone's different.  There are a lot of people, including myself, who cannot tolerate SSRI  meds at all.  I actually did find Wellbutrin quite stimulating.

Yeah, I've always underestimated how badly it can wreck you.  I was drinking two sodas a day after having quit completely a couple months ago.  Well, I say two, but usually I'd never finish either one.  Still, I came to the conclusion that it was bad for me.

So I've been trying to stick with water.  When I want something cola-ish, I've gone to A&W Root Beer.  It still has lots of high fructose corn syrup (thanks, Monsanto!), but no caffeine and I can tell a difference.

Don't know what kind of coffee you're drinking... But watch the caffeine.  Caffeine can wreak havoc on panic and anxiety symptoms.  As can alcohol or over-the-counter cold medications.  Make sure you're drinking decaf coffee and soda.

I can tolerate some caffeine well but other caffeine less so.  I picked up a fountain soft drink at a gas station several weeks ago and within 10 minutes thought I was going to hit the roof!  My heart was racing a million miles an hours.  Have to be careful.

when i started the klonopin i started out on .25 in am and .25 at night . i took it 3 days like that. i was to go up to .5 twice a day but i never did , because the half pill.25 was all i needed . yes it should go away as it builds up in yoour system. are you taking it twice a day . it should be took every 12 hours to reach state of mind where you will be coverd all day and it takes up to 2 weeks to reach that . give it some time, its a great med and will help you out if you take it twice a day, for long term anxiety. let me know how you are doing . barbara

does the clumsiness and lack of memory go away after you take klonopin for a few days? I just started today and Im having a hard time getting through work right now, I took .5 before bed and this morning around 9am I started feeling panic and anxiety so I took .25 and now I feel almost to messed up to be at work. Ive been through this with almost every benzo, should I just give it more time or what?

i have taken both, ive been on ativan for years for panic attacks, its a great drug to help stop one, it works fast and calms me down. just last week i went on klonopin for anxiety/stress. it came on me 5 weeks ago and i tried to fight it off but i just was to down , so i started taking it 3 days ago it has helped and it is a drug you take twice a day for long term anxiety. i could tell a difference in 3 days but i never got up to the .o5 twice a day because am coming back off of it thinking i can do with out it , but if i see i cant than yes thats the med i will go back on long term. it gives you a calming and makes life better . i started out taking 1/2 in am and 1/2 in pm . ask your dr about it , if you are having long term stress/anxiety that is the one i would want . good luck

Klonopin (clonazepam) is usually prescribed for people to take over a long period of time...usually one pill in the morning and one at night.  It has a long half-life (meaning it lasts in your system a longer time than other benzos).  I think it is 12 hours.  This way, by taking one in am and one in pm you maintain the calming effects of the drug.

However, if I am correct, Lorazapam (Ativan) has a shorter half life meaning it doesn't stay in your system as long needing more doses to maintain the effect.  Ativan is usually used "as needed" for a quicker effect, where klonopin takes longer to work but stays longer.

HOPE THAT MAKES SENSE!!
