Mammogram and Ultrasound worries!!

had routine mammo. and ultrasound. First time they made me repeat mammo. (diagnostic) had me go to the 'room' and called back for both breasts...then... back to room.... then back to mammo.on left again! I was a wreck.. crying.. etc... then my routine ultra-sound.... the tech was nice, I have had her for years.. she knew my anxiety level was maxed.. from her reactions, my right was the 'same'.. fibroid cysts... and the left, yes, a cyst.. very small.. she was not alarmed.. and basically made me feel .... better I guess.. so why am I so freaked. I know the radiologist reads the mammo. immediatly.. hence, the 2x more mammo... but what about the ultrasound.. if it showed more of what he saw, would they not speak to me.????? Longest day ever!

If the radilogist read both the mammo and the ultrasound while you were still there, he/she may have spoken to you then, but I think the protocol in most places calls for the radiologist to send his finding to your doctor first. If you have a history of fibroid cysts, apparently only in your right breast, and they now saw "something" in your left breast, you can be sure they are going to do whatever they have to to rule out anything but a new cyst.
If you have been going to the same place for years, they have all your old mammograms to compare this new one with. That is a VERY good thing.
You ask why you are so freaked. Because we are ALL freaked out about breast cancer and for women with fibroid cysts, I can only imagine your fear is even greater. Not because the cysts turn into cancer, but because ANY lump or abnormality that they want a second look at is going to flip the panic switch.
Many of us have been called in to repeat a mammo or a pap and it IS nervewracking, but as you well know, there is nothing to do but wait and try our hardest not to freak out thinking the worst.
I'm sure your results will be fine, but most of us know what you're going through. So try to keep your chin up and know we're all rooting for you.
Please let us know when you get the good news!
Peace
