Wean Off Klonopin

Hi.. I have been on Clonazepam 1MG once a day for about 3 years now. I don't feel like I need it any longer and want to wean off of it. I have tried before cold turkey and became extremely dizzy and nauseous. Does anyone know a safe way of weaning off of this medication.. Thanks so much!!!

This isn't likely since you're weaning, but remember, all benzos can cause seizures when quitting them, so make sure you consult your psychiatrist so he or she can monitor you.

Since you only took it once a day and you only took 1 mg you should be able to slowly wean off of it without too many problems.  Just don't rush it.  I wouldn't make any drastic cuts out of impatience.   Just go nice and slow and you will be off.

I would have to agree...you need to do this through consultation with your doctor.  Not only is quitting cold turkey going to put you through more problems than it is worth, it can be down right dangerous as well.   My mantra has always been the slower the better.

P.s...if 0.5mg gives you side effects then take 3 quarters of the tablet to begin with, do it bit by bit..... God bless xxx

Hi... it is important you do it slowly so you don't get side effects.... start by breaking the tablet in half so your only taking 0.5mg.... take this for maybe a couple of weeks or month and see how you feel.  If you are ok, then maybe either quarter the tablet or take it every other day, then from everyother day to every third day and continue until you arn't taking it anymore.

Go at your body's pace, if you go to fast it won't do you any good.... bare in mind this could take a few months so have patience.  Also, consult your GP so he/she can keep an eye on you while your coming off.
