Medication help - Celexa (Dr. Please)

I have just gotten Celexa but I am scared to start using it right now because i see my gf on wed. Would bad enough side effects occur to where I might be different towards my gf? I also want your advice on what's better. Lexapro or Celexa, or maybe even what's better then those for anxiety. I have done everything to attack my anxiety by quitting smoking and all drugs but it's only help a little bit. I finally came to the conclusion that I am ready to start medication. I get sweaty hands, can't focus, feel dumb, get extremely scared and nervous, feel like I am going to ruin everything and in thinking that I end up doing so, can't speak correctly and start muttering, can't drink coffee or feel horrible, and get extremely dissapointed in myself and depressed. Thank you, any help would be greatly appreciated.

A doctor can't really help with your question.  Celexa does have afew more side effects than Lexapro according to their profile.  Celexa(citilopram) is considerably cheaper. Nobody knows how anyone will react to new meds. I take celexa and did not get the insomnia I got with Lexapro.  Celexa does make some people a bit tired or drowsy at first, but it's worth a try.  You won't be moody or nasty towards your girl if that is what you mean.  You can explain that you are taking a new med if you want. You may be a little tired, maybe an upset tummy.  Probably nothing major. Try it!

Yeah as Paxiled said u won't know until u try it, u may not have side effects from it and start to feel better very soon..... I do understand how scary it can be but i guess the only way to find out is to have a little faith and take one, see how u feel and take it one day at a time.....

The psychiatrist is on the mental health forum, not here.  I can tell you, as can anyone here, that nobody can predict for you which medication will work better.  Although Celexa and Lexapro are derived from the same basic formulation, people react quite differently on them, so they are obviously not equivalents for everyone.  My psychiatrist is switching me from Lexapro, which hasn't worked well, to Celexa, for complicated reasons, but her experience with patients tells her reactions to the two drugs can be very different.
