Medicine advice needed

I started having random anxiety attacks over a month ago and since have been on 4 different perscriptions. First i was on Citalapram daily and Ativan as needed perscribed by my family doctor. I had a severe allergic reaction to Citalapram and was taken off and had to wait for my appointment with the psychiatrist which was a week and a half ago. He perscription for Buspirone and Paroxetine. I didn't start taking the medicine right off the bat because of fear that i was going to have another bad reaction and ended up having another attack last night. I started taking the Buspirone this afternoon and was wondering how i should take it and the Paroxetine. Im supposed to take the Buspirone twice and day and half a tab of Paroxetine once before bed. Is it safe to take them at the same time right before bed or should i space them out. I work night shift so i wake around 3pm and go to bed around 6am. Just need some help with this kinda worried about the two meds having a bad reaction after i go to sleep.

First I want you to relax about taking the Buspirone and the Paroxetine at the same time. Your p-doc knows his meds and would not prescribe drugs that are contraindicated.

Secondly, don't get all befuddled about the "correct" times to take them. We ALL live, work and sleep by the 24 hour clock..........the only difference is that some of us are sleeping while others are working.

Your doctor has prescribed your dose(s) of Buspirone to be taken twice a day. For those people who work a "normal" shift, they would take their meds in the morning and again in the evening. Well, YOUR morning just happens to be at 3p in the afternoon. THAT is when YOU would take your first dose. The second dose is normally scheduled for 12 hours later, which for YOU would be at 3a in the morning.

Your Paroxetine has been prescribed to be taken at bedtime......which for YOU is around 6a in the morning, so that is when you should take it.

These meds will work regardless of the times you take them, it has everything to do with taking them at the correct intervals.

Most of us who have been on antidepressants know that we often have to try several different meds before we find the one, or the combination, that works best for us. Since it can take anywhere from 3-8 weeks (and sometimes longer) before we begin to feel any relief, PATIENCE is the byword for antidepressant therapy. Try to remember that most antidepressants have some side effects when we first begin taking them and some of those side effects are not always very pleasant, but as our body gets use to them, the side effects almost always disappear or become tolerable. Never hesitate to call your doctor about any and all side effects you are feeling.........he/she will let you know if they are "normal" and you just need to give them more time, or, as in your negative reaction to the Citalapram, your doctor will take you off it.

cmac had some very good advice about contacting your pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about the meds you are taking. They are an invaluable and underused source of knowledge about medications.

If it will help you relax, I would urge you to call your doctor or your prescribing pharmacist and double check on the advice I've given you regarding the times for taking your meds. I know they will tell you the same thing I have, but they are the ones with fancy letters after their names!

I wish you the best

I can't really answer your question, but are you able to call a local pharmacy and get advice from them about when to take them?
